Back in January of 2024, I have written out all of these things I wanted to focus on. Here is the link to the original post where I first set these intentions, and here is a screenshot that I completed today:

Some green, some red, some purple (means half and half, comme si comme ça)
Mid July, I reassessed the chart, saw that many goals where just… I don’t know, far-fetched and unrealistic. One coffee a day? Fun thing per month for myself? MLK day of service?… It was all good intentions and all but I didn’t need to do one fun thing for myself. If I want an ice cream, I will just go get it, it seems silly to have it on a yearly list. MLK day of service has been on my yearly list for many years, I’ve never done it. Here is the list when I reworked it mid year:

I narrowed the list down but still was not helpful. Some critical demerits are:
Work category. ALL of those things listed I already do regularly, so it wasn’t so much of a goal list, more of a reminder list, I guess?..
In “self”, I did not do a good job maintaining the self-care practice that I set out for myself. My meditation, journaling and exercise were average.
In “family”, the kids got most of our time. While we do have quality time with T after the kids go to bed, we tend to be lazy about finding sitters and getting out of the house, just the two of us. Monthly dates are in need of improvement. That’s the update on the demerits.
2024 gold stars/pats on the back:
- Email boundaries! This goal was not on the list (should have been) but I have held my email boundaries firmly from September (school year beginning) till present day. I plan on NOT checking email after contractual time (3PM) ever again.
- I got three pairs of glasses! After existing in contact lenses for 12 hours a day for years, I got new glasses that I love and wear. Thanks Warby Parker.
- Travels. Paris in the spring, Italy in the summer. Also, camping and a road trip to Dutch County, PA. Plus an NYC trip for a professional conference and an NYC trip with L this past December.
- Yoga since June of 2024. Consistent and regular. On good weeks, I attend 3-4 times, on bad, busy weeks, once or twice.
- In case of death folder and a living will, finalized.
- Many live theater performances. Very happy with the fact that I attended quite a few, both alone, with T, with my friend H, and with kids. Many were plays as well as dance and drumming performances.
- Increased my retirement contribution to 13% of total salary.
- My blog. I feel accomplished with my blog. I am not a daily writer unless it’s a writing challenge but still I’m happy I keep writing! It’s a definite hobby.
Did you have things you accomplished that were not on the list? Did you add them in?
