After some soul-searching, journaling, writing, deleting, stepping away, and re-writing, I have put together a list of… things. Goals? Values? Intentions?

I have my categories, and I know what I like. I am also feeling the urge to “grow” somehow in 2024 but I know my limits. So, no marathons, or certified yoga teacher trainings, or climbing mount Kilimanjaro. But I do want to get to know myself better. And I think a lot of it will come through on this blog and through travel.

So, here they are:

Some intentions are “continue to____” goals. I could have added “continue to serve my students” or “continue with reading to kids every night” or “continue blogging.”

Some things that are different from last year are:

  1. decreasing (but not eliminating) my coffee intake, replacing it with green tea after my first and only cup.
  2. adding financial pointers
  3. adding the 2023 photo book
  4. adding a habit that I used to have and abandoned: the Golden Hour
  5. adding one fun thing per month. For Daria. Examples: take myself out to lunch, watch a movie alone, do an overnight trip, see a concert, do a day hike, etc. This one is gonna be difficult since over the years I became a rather boring person that just wants to have tea and read books. Wish me luck with this goal!

Three things I love about myself: reflective, creative, resourceful, organized

Three things I need to let go of: inertia, lack of exercise, unnecessary worry about kids, people and the world at large.

I want to achieve these three things the most: more quality time with T, more fun for myself, travel: with kids and alone

I will dare to do these three things: decrease caffeine, walk for 20 minutes 5 days a week, eat less

I will say no to: eating junk, people pleasing, complaining, and comparing.

My word for 2024 is: CONNECT (to self, others, books, countries, concepts).

How about you? Anything you are aiming for in 2024?

I’ve been inspired by your last couple of posts as well as a few other blog writers regarding goals, or maybe inspiration, growth, I don’t know. Something along that line. I just know that I need to do better. I do like lists, so maybe listing things out and organizing my thoughts better might help me do well in 2024. Thank you for the inspiration. I like how you have your goals organized, very clear and not a ton of unrealistic ones.

These sound like great goals! I think it would be hard to do a fun thing for myself every month, too, but I think that’s a super goal!

I have one cup of coffee in the morning and then green tea it through 2pm (usually 1 cup, sometimes 2) and then sometimes have a cup of herbal tea with my daughter before bed; I found this is the right caffeine-level for me after years of drinking only Diet Coke all day every day, haha! I love your goals and areas of focus and can’t wait to read along! Happy New Year, Daria!

One cup of coffee would be so hard for me! But the tea will help with the transition to less coffee. Connect was my word 2 years ago. I aimed to connect with 3-4 people each month, either in person or via zoom for far away friends. It was my most successful word of the year since it was something I could kind of track and measure. Each month I would plan who I would connect with.

I am going to set quarterly goals this year as I’ve mentioned before. I already booked the babysitter for our Q1 date! We are going out in early Feb for my bday.

These are a good spread of goals/intentions. And you picked a WORD, yay! Connect will be so good and can be used in so many ways. I look forward to cheering you on. I am not going to to annual goals this year because I have my 101 list and my word which is enough.

I think having tea and reading books is a very fun. Maybe you could take a thermos of tea and your book to new locations? Like to a new park or new garden or museum or bench somewhere?
I always find it so inspiring to read other people’s lists. I think first thing on my list to is to find time to sit and think about my list. 🙂

We have the same word of the year. I don’t normally pick a word/theme of the year, but the word “connection” was really calling to me. Here’s to a wonderful 2024!

I love that you have a lot of “continue to…” goals. It means you’ve established some good habits already that you just plan to continue (and that is perfect!).
I love the word connect for the new year. That would be good word for me too as I am hoping to make some more local connections. I have many friends, but they’re either far away or online. It would be nice to have someone to meet up with every once in a while.
