Thank you to Kari from A Graceful Life blog for this challenge.
why did you start blogging in the first place?
I have always, always loved writing. Journalling, peer-reviewed articles (example), I even enjoyed writing my dissertation, back in 2016-2017. The art of writing is enjoyable to me. Plus, I often get overwhelmed so writing (by hand or on the computer) helps me organize my thoughts, my day, a lesson, or plan a trip.
Also. I always wanted my life with other people. I immigrated to the US a long time ago and build a life here, in New Jersey, that I want to share. I have a great life but I also struggle with anxiety, fatigue, parenting, childhood trauma, compare-sitis, loss, and peri-menopause.
Lastly. I wanted to find another facet of belonging, and I found it. This blog is a way to be part of an awesome blogging community, and, while I do not write that often (about 1 or 2 a week), I still feel that I am part of something significant.
have you blogged on other platforms before?
No.
what platform are you using now and why did you choose it?
WordPress seemed user-friendly and easy enough for me to navigate. The less bells and whistles, the better
how do you write your posts?
I almost always wing it so no editorial calendar here. I can start a post on Tuesday and finish it on Friday or even over the weekend. I like to include pictures since I am a very visual person.
when do you feel most inspired to write?
Ha. Anytime my kids are not with me. When I am alone. After I’ve had a glass of wine. On the plane/train. Very early in the morning or at night.
do you publish immediately after writing, or let it simmer as a draft?
Oh it simmers alright. But not because I need time to think about it. More often than not, it’s because I got interrupted or I have to bring L to her piano lesson. Or laundry is done, and I have to place it in the dryer. I need focused time to complete posts.
what’s your favorite post?
Hmmm. ANY of my travel posts bring sweet memories…
any future plans? maybe a redesign, move to another platform, or adding a new feature?
Absolutely no future plans. I have a basic subscription on WordPress, and plan on keeping it forever. I do, however, need to organize my posts in “pages” but cannot figure out how to do that. You know, one opens a website and they see categories up top, say… Travel, daily life, teaching, books, etc… Right now my posts join the abyss that is my front page. If you have ideas, please share them with me the comments.
