Looking Back at March + Looking Forward to April

Home! We circled above Newark/New York area for about 40 minutes yesterday – the traffic control tower was evacuated because of the 4.8 magnitude earthquake. An earthquake in New Jersey! I’ve experienced a small one in Chile but not here! Then there was a second one, about 8 hours later. I was already in bed, jet lagged, and the house started shaking.

The flight was 7 and 1/2 hours and it was fine! The kids watched cartoons, did Khan Academy, napped, fooled around, drew, did Duplos, and made conversations with fellow travelers. I worked with my planner and calendar, reflected, dozed, refereed some arguments, and also made conversation with fellow travelers.

Looking back on March. My brain thinks is images and schemes so I made my usual mind map for March. March was a fun month! It also felt long and anxious, mainly because of preparations for our Paris trip which was right at the end of the month.

Some highlights: L committing to piano lessons, St. Patrick’s day celebrations, seeing Trinity Irish dance company in NJPAC, March 8th celebrations, a few family hikes in the reservation; great summative feedback at work, connecting with people and having a date night with T. Also, some house and yard things: spring clean-up, flag stones fixed on porch, house cleaned before the trip. And a few lowlights: little to no reading (couldn’t focus because of the trip), no Easter egg hunt this year, state testing, daylight savings blahs, and some anxiety. And, no formal exercise but regular life movement. One fun thing this month was the Irish dance performance at NJPAC with L.

What’s on tap for April? Because March was rather intense, April will be on a calmer side, I think…

A very good friend’s birthday, Passover, Eid. The weather in April in NJ usually warms up so spend time outside, go hiking, visit New York Botanical Gardens (that’s a day trip), and of course, nurture my word of the year: CONNECTION. I already have a meeting with former colleagues this coming Friday at a tavern – just to see each other. Plus, our monthly date and reach out to more friends, either online or face-to-face. There is also Bring Your Child to Work Day! We had fun last year.

A mammogram :-[). Sign up for yoga and start paying – that will get me going since I’m usually financially motivated. Give Chase United Plus credit card their last $550 – I used it at Paris exclusively (no foreign transaction fee).

Gardening and further cleaning up the yard and the house. Oh, the garage has some stuff that needs to go. Want to finish Holly by Steven King and get my reading back up. Of course, continue blogging and commenting (very behind on that at the moment). Meditating has slipped in March so I want to become consistent again.

What about you? How is April looking for you? What is the weather like in April in your part of the world?

You had a big month in March and a busy start to April with your Paris trip. Hopefully things settle down a bit but it seems like there are no quiet days! I will be in NJ the week after my Florida trip. I land around 5 on April 15th. If you are free that night we could grab a drink at my hotel bar or something? I have client events the other evenings as I am coming out for a ‘women in finance’ series of events which will hopefully be fun. I’m staying at the Delta in Woodbridge this time – not sure how close that is to you? If April doesn’t work, I will be back in October and December.

April is going to be busy for me. We go to FL tomorrow and get back Thursday. Then the following M-Th I am in Nj. Then the next week I am in Cleveland (and will get to see Suzanne – not sure if you know her/read her blog?). So that’s April and then I travel to Napa the first week of May. So I will be traveling 4 weeks in a row including the Fl vacation. The Cleveland and Napa trips are just one night trips for client events (not ideal to go all the way to Napa and just spend one night but it’s a busy time of the month at work for Phil so I am trying to minimize my time away). Kind of tired just thinking through all of this. I will blink and it will be May.

hope the jet lag adjustment isn’t too bad!!

Hi friend! I would absolutely love to see you but T is away and I’ll have both kiddos on April 15th. Gah, a bummer. Let me see if I can drop the kids at my Russian friend’s house for a few hours..
I love Suzanne’s blog- so great you get to meet her!

I loved reading about your trip to Paris. It’s my favorite destination and I think of it so often. I hope to go back relatively soon. I’m not sure I’m reading your April mind map correctly…does it say ‘Prep for Italy’ at the very top????

I bet going back with an earthquake was not fun. I hate the feeling of helplessness. I experienced quite a few as both Philippines and indonesia are in seismic area.

April after our return will be busy busy until June, mostly work but work with fun projects coming up so I’m looking forward to get back to it.

Nice! You see, at this time, work usually wraps up for me: we only have about a month left of school! So, prepping for finals. September and October are usually fun :)) in teaching.

I am still catching up on all the posts that I missed when I was traveling myself, but I wanted to say that I am amazed that you took this trip to Paris with your kids and how much you saw and did while you were there. Your kids will be “world travelers” growing up and not even blink! The photos were wonderful and the food looked amazing.
