I hope that if you celebrated Yum Kippur, you had a restful day.

For the past three days it’s been raining, at different strengths: from pouring to drizzle to mist, and all the way back to pouring, non-stop! I know, I know, I shouldn’t complain about things I cannot control but we were climbing walls all weekend. There are so many movies you can watch, cookies you can make, floors to clean, towers to build and dolls to color and cut out. I did what felt like 300 loads of laundry, cleaned the house with kids underfoot, went to the dentist for my 6 month cleaning, went to the Invisalign consultation to get more dental trays, and ripped out the old morning glories. Listened to Sarah’s new episode of the BLP!

Today, finally, I said to the kids “Put on your rain coats, we are going for a walk! We are starting to smell sour being inside all this time.” Smelling/turning sour is a Russian expression for when you have been sitting at home for a long time.

The walk was lovely!

Also want to share a makeshift cemetery T has set up on the side of our property with tombstones carved out of… some foam? It looks really creepy in the night when it’s all lit up!

I love the expression ‘starting to smell sour’. It sounds so apt.

Here in California, we rarely get enough rain, though we certainly did last winter. I love rainy, misty days though.

You commented on my blog post about the Russian church in Juneau. I wanted to tell you that I went to a beautiful Russian Cathedral in Nice, France last year, that was also very much an active church. When we arrived, a young couple was leaving the church with their family, obviously just married (though no big white dress), and while we were looking around inside, they pushed us all aside so the more active part of the church could be used for a baptism. I LOVED IT.

I love that turning sour/smelling sour expression! I need to use that one! It’s been rainy here for the last several days, too. But we desperately need the rain so I am trying not to complain. It will be really really warm next weekend, like highs in the low 80s. It’s marathon weekend here so I feel bad for the runners as that is TOO HOT for a marathon!

Paul didn’t have school yesterday for the Jewish holiday but they provide care on non-school days (well, if you register super early and are a returning family – it fills up fast from what I hear) so it was kind of a normal day for him. He was whining a bit about having to go and said he wanted to stay home – but we went to work so I reminded him we all had jobs to do that day and his job was to go to Minneapolis Kids where he’d have a blast. And he did.

Yes, it is so good to get out when you’ve been stuck inside the house. Wow, you all go all out for Halloween.

Hey Melissa! My husband takes Halloween 🎃 very, very seriously! It’s our favorite holiday since he is a maker/creator. For other holidays we go with rather understated decor 🙂
