Below I am addressing my need to ramble for a bit as well as pat myself on the back for finishing a full week, at work and at home.
✨ Work ✨ My students and I are full speed ahead with curricula in both levels! Lessons are well designed and have a relatively fast pace, and students stay busy and productive. A highlight of my week at work was our Back-to-School night on Thursday where I met some of my students’ parents. I had a chance to tell them about our language program, about the course itself, and about specific activities we do. But most importantly, they had a chance to get to know me and to see that I love working with young people and that I love teaching languages. I spoke to them about the importance of teaching in the target language and what they should emphasize at home. I was tired the next day because, well, BTS night goes on till about 8:30PM, but still I enjoyed welcoming the parents into my class.
On Thursday the students were dismissed at the usual time. I had quite a few hours to kill until BTS night, and I decided it wasn’t worth it to go all the way home then come back, so I stayed at work and went for an hour and a half hike! Our school is next to a beautiful reservation so i just started walking.
✨ Self ✨ An absolute highlight for self was meeting up for a glass of wine with Lisa from Lisa’s Yarns blog. I am a long timer reader of her blog and always love seeing her updates. Lisa is so down to earth and so very real. She is an amazing listener, and I didn’t feel the need to do small talk (which I despise). We talked openly about our kids (our kids are similar ages), work, family, travel, exercise, and mental health. I honestly wish she lived closer!!
Among other little things I did for myself is my morning meditation. An aroma therapy shower gel I got from Bath and Body Works: mimosa spearmint. Have not exercised or journaled or did yoga.
Reading has been a struggle lately. I just can’t seem to get into a book! Not even Ann Napolitano’s Hello Beautiful… Look at the types of books I “sampled” for the past few weeks. The one I do enjoy is the audio book by Angie Cruz, the narration is incredible. But apart from that, I think I need to move on.
✨ Family✨ On Tuesday, I went to L’s Back-to-School night! I loved, loved her teacher, a seasoned, quite direct, and no-nonsense educator. She said that L told her she knows how to read (she does but not everything). If I read between the lines here – L needs to tune down her over-confidence (or, arrogance?). Regardless, the kindergarten classroom was beautifully decorated, clean, and in a brand new building. I think L will learn a lot here.
L’s has had a rough week during morning drop offs. She had a meltdown on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but not Thursday or Friday so I think she is getting there. Poor T. He drops her off so he had to deal with that. R is doing well in his preschool! The preschool had a book fair so they each chose one book to purchase.
A low light. The cleaner person stood us up! She changed her appointment many times, so that should have been a warning for me. First she was sick, then she forgot she had a dentist appointment, the finally this week she said she will come on Thursday and never showed up, never texted or called. I am bummed because I really liked her but that door has closed. Maybe, just maybe, something bad has happened (an accident? a mental health crisis?) so I send her light and wish her well. But we will find someone else.
Halloween. We have decorated for Halloween, can you believe it??! The kids really wanted to decorate so here we are…
✨ Weekend ✨ Yum Kippur is on Monday so this is a three day weekend for us! Today is gymnastics and flu shots for both kids. I guess I will pay myself the $160 to clean the house (because the cleaner did not show up), will get something nice from Nordstroms although $160 will not take you far in that store. Clean laundry is overflowing again, waiting to be folded and put away. Right knee and right bottom of the foot has been hurting, not sure why. So far, using the Tiger balm to soothe. Kids’s room are a mess. All is well in the world, all is well.
