Labor Day weekend is upon us, that means that for me, as a public school employee, four days off. I really like how they scheduled the calendar this year. We came in last week, met the students, got to know them, connected with them, then we have a nice long weekend, then we are coming back on Tuesday and it’s show time! I mean, work time 😉

Friday… Was a wonderful day. Crisp weather, fall-like. But still warm. We had a slow, pleasant morning. Went to our library (channeling my inner Lisa), got haircuts, Panera for lunch, and swung by my school to create a bulletin board. The kids loved being in my class (no students on Friday but I have keys to school). Who doesn’t like creating a “highway” with a bulletin board border and zipping toy cars on it? Finished Friday by going to a local Italian fair as a family.

Easy Friday morning… No-make up face, graying hair, a bathrobe. Cutting out a paper doll that L created ❤️
Teacups!! R is behind L, you can barely see him ❤️

Saturday rolled around and I was determined to go down the shore (New Jersey lingo)- to the beach. No traffic, cool-ish weather, breezy but warm. No scorching sun this time. Stayed for about four hours. Tons of fun, sand everywhere. Kids eating every 15 minutes. You know, the usual.

Sand and smiles

Saturday night I got together with my group of closest friends. I lamented in some post (might be This one), how in the summer I felt like I have not gotten enough of friend time… So it is so good that we are making choices to get together again. Just us (5 women total, including me). My friend B is an amazing cook, with a such a cozy house, and she made us all dinner.

Chicken, mashed potatoes, tzimmes

Sunday started with an early morning walk with the kids. Then I went to a Korean spa to heat my bones a bit. After lunch they had quiet time, then T brought the kids to the fair again and I stayed behind to write and read. They came back exhausted, later than their usual bedtime and pretty much collapsed in a heap at bedtime. Win!

A tree can be a slide for Big Foot! 🌳

As I finish writing this it is Monday, still a day off (official Labor Day in the US). Feeling the need to go down the shore again today to get some sun and listen to the waves since it is highly likely that after this weekend I won’t be able to go. It’ll get colder, work will become more intense, kids will start gymnastics on Saturdays…

Next week… is pretty light. Working Tuesday-Friday. Thursday is a first day of school for both kids! And gymnastics on Saturday. I am sure I will find ways to fill in any free time gaps, I just hope I fill it with something beneficial like yoga or reading 🙂

This looks lovely! Relaxed time with family (and good food) are always “wins” in my book.

Love that you think of me when you think of visiting the library with your kids! We haven’t been to the library in 2 weeks since I have been up at my parents the last 2 weekends. I am very ready to get back into that routine. We are out of library books to read – we usually bring home 20 books and work through them that week but now we have read everything! Your quiet time while your husband took the kids to the fair sounds wonderful!! I was so happy to pass the parenting torch to Phil when I got home yesterday. I read and took a little nap and it was delightful.

Happy first day of school to your kids! Paul starts on Thursday, too!
