Why not another daily prompt from WordPress?… I have the time, after all.
Opened positive news network and grabbed the first article I saw. Link to the news article -> here
Teen Floundering in Foster Care Finally Gets to be a Sister With Real Family for First Time. Excerpt:
“At five years old, Merriah entered foster care after enduring abuse and neglect from parents with mental health and substance abuse problems. For nine long years, she went back and forth between multiple foster homes and her mother’s home, never experiencing the stability of a real family. For years Merriah was afraid she might never get adopted.” She got adopted at age 15, finally finding a loving family and becoming a sister to a toddler.
How does it connect to my life? First and foremost, the article fills me with hope. Additionally, not too long ago I finished David Ambroz‘ memoir about being in foster care and trying his best to lead a good life after emancipation. The article also reminds me of a school where I used to work when I first started teaching- an alternative high school for struggling teens. Some lived at home, some in foster care, and some – on site. Some ended up making good thing out of their lives, others- not so much. Although I do not know Merriah personally but my heart is happy that she found a loving family. I just want to hug them all 🙂
