1. My current book, Women Rowing North by Mary Pipher, is depressing and enlightening at the same time. I’ve been reading it for a while now. A lot is about aging, grief, finding yourself, putting yourself out there after loss of a spouse. I feel the book is good in small doses. Targeted audience is women in their 60s and 70s, but I thought it is good for me to read it in my 40s. Some thorough descriptions of health issues, of you or your spouse, estrangement of your children, and loss of friendships to illness or death. Sounds terrible but the book is written in an uplifting way.
  2. Rest week. After coming back from our Portugal-Spain trip, we have been *slowly* regaining our footing back home. Laundry took two days. Putting it away took two days. The kids have been good, for the most part. Went to the beach and the playground. Went to Panera. Savoring little moments with them. Also feeling like I am ready to get back to work 😉
  3. Watched Come Play with T the other night. Really liked it!
  4. Picked up my Golden Hour: meditation and writing and felt good about it. I gave it up during our trip for a variety of reasons but it felt good to be back in the routine. Due to the time difference, we’ve been up at 3AM, then 4AM, then 5AM, and finally, today 6AM!
  5. Excited about my trip to Poland to see my best friend Joanna. We will have TEN (!) days together at her house in Poland! I went to see her last year, too, for her 40th birthday and stayed for a week. This year, it’s 10 days. Why? We were both so sad when I was leaving… I left in the night to get from Łódź to Chopin Airport, we were both crying non-stop. This summer, I would love to have more days with her. In essence, she is the person that I can pretty much share anything with, without fear of judgement. And if she does judge me, she will just tell me “I am sorry, I am judging but I love you.” So she is that kind of friend. We met in America, worked together, became close friends, she was my made of honor at my wedding. She then moved back to Poland and we lost touch. We reconnected after we both had kids (Joanna – a daughter, who is now 7; me-L and R, 5.5 an 3.5).

So important… As we get older, our friendships change and it gets harder to open up and keep in touch.

10 days with your nearest and dearest friend sounds amazing! I get to see my best friends in a week and I am so excited. We will have about 3.5 days together. I haven’t seen her since my wedding in 2017. We keep in touch over text and WhatsApp but each have 2 kids – our oldest kids are 3 months apart and her youngest is a year younger than Taco. So life has been busy for us and it makes it harder to FaceTime. So I can’t wait to get some time with her, hiking and exploring an area that will be new to both of us – Banff!

Hooray for time with a friend! It will also be nice to get some alone time where you don’t have to be “Mom” 24/7! Enjoy your time in Poland!

It seems like your re-entry from vacation went as well as possible! I don’t envy your circadian system, shifting back to European time so soon after re-acclimating to US time. 🙂 I saw that you posted from Poland, though, so glad you got there safely!

Yes, re-entry was just fine. Apart from waking up super early… It was okay!
