I am so overwhelmed at the moment, with work and life. So this post is really overdue.

I could have just skipped it. But I don’t want you guys to forget about me 🫠😉

Let’s start with May highlights.

🥳 My birthday at the beginning of the month- my puzzle party!

🥳 A jury duty that I was excused from very early so I had the rest of the day to myself. I had a colleague in the same room with me and he was sent to a four day trial :/

🤩 Mother’s Day celebration at R’s school

👌 a weekend alone in the house #bliss

👍 One on one meeting with our new principal: she started in January and has been holding 1 on 1 meetings with teachers. I had a LOT to say about the school and improvements that are needed.

🦄 Dr Sims’ workouts – she is a nutritionist / exercise coach from New Zealand that designs workouts for perimenopausal women. Heavy and short.

May lowlights

🦥 Stalled teacher union negotiations; as of now we do not have a contract for new year. Frustrating. All of us are frozen on our old salary step- no raises. At least, not until we get a new contract.

😵‍💫 A huge feeling of overwhelm. I feel like it happens every year around this time. It’s a combination of factors: prepping final exams, doing the verbal part of final exams, dealing with open enrollment for medical, dental, flex account for kids’ after care; summative processes, staff evaluations, ALL the things!… All the necessary processes but it’s a lot.

✈️ On a personal side, I reworked our Italy trip, the Dolomites section, almost entirely. That took some decision muscle flexing but I’m happy with how it is now. At first, we were staying on the Eastern side of the Dolomites for two nights and then the western side for three nights. After I thought it over, it seemed as a very fragmented way to see the mountains. So I cancelled both airbnbs. A new plan is that we will be staying right ON the Alpe di Suisi plateau (an alpine meadow). A bit more expensive lodging BUT the mountains are waiting for me when I open the front door. A much deeper, slower experience. Lastly, I cancelled our rental car. Reason being, once you get into the mountains, that car becomes a dead weight- driving is rather restricted in Alpe di Suisi. Instead, you are expected to hike and take cable cars since it’s a highly protected area.

⛺️ A camping trip that had to be rescheduled due to rain

🙄 Some unbloggable drama at work within our department and other departments/content areas

🪆 Russia situation and the continuous mental weight of guilt for being so far away from my parents who are in their 80s.

June

We are already into June big time but so far the feeling of overwhelm is still here. And will likely continue until the end of my school year- June 17th.

June has already brought some sweet parenting moments for me and my husband: L’s piano recital; R’s jiu jitsu tournament.

Piano rehearsal
This kid gave his all and he got first place -BJJ in-house tournament

Other June goals…

Our anniversary!

The above mentioned camping trip

Father’s Day

Graduation

Will leave it here friends. If I disappear for a while it means I am finishing up the school year and will write more soon!

That photo of R on the podium is just priceless. Love it!

The lowlights sound difficult to deal with. I so much hope the contract negotiations are concluded quickly and in your favor. I do like hearing that the new principal is having listening sessions with the staff. And hoping the end of the school year has some beauty and fun in it fo you, amid all the overwhelming stuff.

Sounds a bit tough and intense right now! I’ve been feeling like that too at work, and our current contract is up at the end of the year, haven’t heard how the union is going with the next negotiation yet – last time we were in your same position, no new contract for at least 6 months after the old one finished, so no pay rises etc. Its frustrating. Your solo night in the house sounded wonderful though! And so nice to see the kids do well at their extracurriculars 🙂 Hang in there – not long until end of school and your amazing Italy trip. All that organising (and re-organising!) will be worth it I bet, and I can’t wait to live vicariously through your photos haha.

You are juggling so much with work, parenting, the challenge of being so far away from parents, plus being a very intentional planner. You have a major trip coming up! You have a high-paced job! Your kids are involved and active and still very young and require a lot of inputs.
Hang in there, my friend ❤

I can't wait to read all about your trip. You do such a great job planning things.

Good luck with the final stretch of school! Today is my kids’ last day of school! This whole week has been throw away days where nothing of substance happens but that’s what happens in early elementary school. The boys have both had fun and Paul is actually quite sad that the year is coming to an end! We go to my parents tomorrow for a long weekend and then they start their childcare program on Monday and have something every week (school program, church day camp or being at my parents) until school resumes on Sept 8/10. I am relieved that summer is very similar to the rest of the year for us. I would not enjoy trying to fill their days!

I hope your contract gets negotiated soon! That is stressful for everyone!

I am beyond stocked about your trip to the Dolomites/Alpe de Suisi (Seiser Alm). This place is so near and dear to my heart and I cannot wait for you to experience it and have the glorious view of the Sassolungo! 🙂

Ooh… your trip sounds incredible!!! It will be a nice reward for getting through the school year. You’re very close… hang in there! I’m sorry about the contract negotiations.- that stinks. Hopefully it will be resolved… soon?

I feel like we’ve been out of school forever here. But you will have the last laugh when we start again mid-August!

Your Dolomites trip sounds amazing – It’s on my *must visit* places list. It sounds like logistics are coming together but that is a big mental load for you!

Good luck with the school wrap up. It sounds very stressful. Our school doesn’t finish untill 18th of July so we are definitely not in summer vibes yet (we had a week off in the end of may, then a very long half term to finish). It does feel like the school stuff is ramping up now, and everyone is tired… but we are not near the finish line yet.

Overwhelm is so hard and makes everything else hard. I have that feeling a lot these days but I am hoping it will pass. Same for you!
