Weekly recap. I thought I have prepared nicely the weekend prior but then again..

I did clean and tidy the house, laundry was at zero, and my outfits were made advance. Chili was cooked on a Sunday night and lasted till Thursday.

Our routines were following the same pattern of me waking up about an hour / an hour and a half before the kids, having my quiet time in the morning to meditate, stretch, do some weights, and get ready.

I knew that I cannot waste any time in the mornings, and had to constantly remind myself of that.

Then the kids were up at around 6am, having breakfast, getting ready (with my help). Some mornings we even had margins- to do piano, to play, to go outside, to tidy the house before leaving. Other mornings it was very tight.

Breakfast in the car on Wednesday, after a hectic morning

I did notice on the days that I did *some kind* of physical activity I felt better – mentally and energetically.

I had the pleasure of bringing both kids to their activities 😉 R had BJJ three times, and L had her weekly piano lesson for one hour.

While I do not enjoy all the driving, I do appreciate what the kids are learning in jiu jitsu and piano. Additional silver lining is that I can read my book or plan or go for a run while they are in after school lessons. BJJ lesson is 45 minutes long and that’s times three, so 2.25 hours of “time” for me. Piano is one hour long once a week, and, if weather permits, I go for a run around the block. This week it was raining during that day so instead I went to Trader Joe’s next door to get some groceries.

It’s very tempting to just fart that time away, on my phone, looking at clothes I can’t buy, at things in the world that I can’t change, people I can’t measure up to. After work, my will power is used up and prone to distractions/easy scrolling because.. I don’t know, I need something easy. But I don’t need news. Or shopping. Or comparing. Because if I fart that time away, I feel WORSE, not BETTER. If I go for a walk, or a run, or to a grocery store, or whatever, call a friend, then I feel BETTER. Or, if I just close my eyes in the car for a few moments.

Evenings were okay, for the most part. Both of my kids are at the same school and at the same aftercare program. The afternoons also had a pattern:

*Finish work at 2:45pm

*Have some “me time” at work – catch up on life, read blogs, read my book, plan

*Pick one kid up at aftercare around 4pm for their lesson (other kid stays at aftercare)

*Stay at lesson with said kid

*Pick another kid up at aftercare

*Bring both kids home at around 5:45

*Backpacks and lunch boxes unpacked and cleaned out (for all of us 🙂

*Time on the trampoline for the kids

*Dinner at around 6-6:30

*Bed time at 7:30 or 8 (for all of us 🙂

I wore the outfits that I prepped the weekend before but I felt frumpy in one of them – the flower skirt. I bought the skirt in Tropea, and love it but not sure whether I styled it well. It’s just that skirt is a VERY full skirt with a VERY bold flower pattern. So, next time… What do you think? A nude turtleneck? A black fitted body suit? Some heeled sandals?..

Monday… feeling a bit frumpy
Wednesday, better

Weekend.

Saturday and Sunday weather

Needs and wants for the weekend:

Finalize lesson plans for week of 09/29

Laundry – put away

Back stairs – put primer

Town hall meeting at kids’ school

Probably will have some neighborhood kids over

Get gas and put air in tires for my car

Aldi for vegetables and dairy

Make outfits for next week

Overall freshen up the house

I entered L’s room to switch laundry, and the kids are scheming something

Lastly, I want to share some pictures from our annual photo session.

Bloopers, lots of them
Some good ones
Some where I couldn’t help myself
Some really cute ones
Some really sweet ones

Questions for you:

Do you have pockets of free time during the week? When are they? How do you use them?

How should I style the flower skirt next time? What do you wear to work?

You look amazing! You don’t seem to have experienced the perimenopausal weight gain, especially in the tummy, like I have. Sob. I think your outfits look great. I would maybe wear a black top with the skirt? But no one comes to me for fashion advice. LOL.

If I have pockets of time, I will generally fill it with reading since that is my #1 hobby! I need to be better about connecting with friends but I don’t love talking on the phone!

One thing I’ve been doing is walking to school to pick up the kids when I WFH. It’s about 10-15 min depending on the route I take and then we take the short way home as the kids complain about their legs being SO TIRED. It’s a nice way to fit in some extra steps!

I do NOT like talking on the phone either. We use WhatsApp for our small friend group and check in with each other on the regular.
If I only had a 20 minute block I’m not sure if I’d read- I feel like I need longer.. then I’d have to peel myself away from the book…

Daria, that skirt is cute but I think it needs a fitted top and heels. I would go black, very fitted – so a bodysuit or turtleneck – and then a heeled sandal. I think you could get away with a black ballet flat as well, if you had a black top. The shirt and jacket are a bit too boxy for such a full skirt. I love the Wednesday outfit – I think a fitted top suits you generally so that’s what I would do.

    The family photos look great!

Thanks so much, Nicole! I do have a black turtleneck and a few bodysuits- so will defy try them with the skirt. A beige heel sandals, too.

I have to be really mindful of my time in the morning, too. I should say- I need to be… I’m not, but I should be. lol. Especially even on the weekends, I can have a tendency to really flit time away or spend TOO long on my “morning routine time”. It’s enjoyable, but then I end up feeling frazzled and like I don’t have enough time in the day for everything else that has to happen! I often look back and think, jeesh I should probably have utilized the morning a little better…

About the skirt, I agree a very fitted black top would look cute! I have been feeling like I need to add a few more fitted tops to my wardrobe. I keep feeling like many of the tees/tanks I own are too “blousy” for looser bottoms and I sometimes feel like it can quickly feel frumpy, too. I’ve never tried a bodysuit either. Let me know if you have any good leads on fitted tops!! Would love suggestions.

      Hi Kae,
My friend Anya introduced me to body suits. She always looks SO put together- regardless of what is happening in her life- and she wears a lot of fitted clothing. Not tight, but fitted.
Here are the ones from evil Amazon that I bought back in May: https://a.co/d/4deQoGz
Ignore the word “sexy” it’s perfectly acceptable for work.

Oh thanks!! Will check that out. I agree, the fitted top look always looks so put together … I actually have wondered like, hmm what are these tops?! I didn’t know they were body suits! lol

Another vote for a black bodysuit and heels. You always look so stylish and put together and I think it’s so wise (and fun) to put your outfits together in advance.

Your family photos are adorable and I love the “bloopers”…they’re extra fun and special. That picture of you with R leaning on your shoulder is just PRECIOUS.

Hi Elisabeth, I’ve been doing the outfits for two weeks now and yes, it is much easier in the morning. This week I had to modify since it was raining on Wednesday.

Your family photos are so wonderful and full of joy! It’s great that your kids’ lessons give you some extra “free” time to do things you want to do. It sounds like you have everything organzied so well!

I love family photos where everyone is acting up. I have a horrible habit of making faces whenever someone points a camera in my direction. So now my kids always make sure we have a few of all of us making faces. It wouldn’t be a real family picture without the silly ones. It is so real. I love good poses too, but my favorites are always the ones where we are cracking up with laughter.

I feel in the minority here for sure. I do like the flowered skirt, but honestly, I think a plain red top or sweater of some sort would be perfect. Something a little shorter, like the jacket, so you don’t have to tuck it in. I think you would feel bright and happy in something like that.

black body suit or tie a t-shirt to the exact waist band.

I need to be SO MUCH BETTER about these pockets– especially Tuesdays while both girls have dance. You are right that wasting the time is NOT satisfying…

I’m at a different phase of life, and I work from home, so I have a lot of pockets of time. My mornings are important, that is when I have time to exercise. If I fritter too much time away on my iPad playing word games or whatever, then I have to cut into my exercise time, which I always regret. I could sneak in more exercise during the day if I wanted to, I guess. Lift some weights at my desk, do some pushups when it’s slow at work. Take a walk after dinner.

I love your outfits. I think a bright sweater would look great, or a bodysuit. Could be red.

Hi Julie, that’s so nice you have pockets of time! For me, it rotates depending on a day.. For example, one day I only teach three classes so I have more time, then on a different day it’s five. Then maybe four, and so on. I printed some yoga poses to do at work and Nicole’s table downward dog. I could go outside and walk the track at my school but I don’t. Because- one thing or another…

Wow, do I ever feel this ENTIRE paragraph: “It’s very tempting to just fart that time away, on my phone, looking at clothes I can’t buy, at things in the world that I can’t change, people I can’t measure up to. After work, my will power is used up and prone to distractions/easy scrolling because.. Why is willpower never enough to pull me away from it, even when I KNOW it makes me feel like I’m wasting my life?!?!

Love that flowery skirt. It’s so pretty and you look great and not frumpy at all. I do like the idea of trying it with a fitted bodysuit, though! That would look great as well, especially with the denim jacket.

I often feel the same re: smart phone. Life used to be so much easier with flip phones. I had a little Nokia 🙂 so simple..
