We left New Jersey on Sunday morning, and after about 4 stops in different states we arrived on Chincoteague (pronounced cheenkoteegh) island. There is Assateague and Chincoteague part of this nature reserve. We were on the Chincoteague side in Virginia. Assateague entrance is in Maryland and we didn’t go to there.

The reserve itself is breaktakingly beautiful. Part saltwater marsh, part pine forest, and part mixed woods. So many birds, just so picturesque. Pictures don’t really portray the experience. Weather- wise it was a mild 50-60 degrees. I had to wear my jacket.

When we first arrived, we checked in, then went out to check out the reserve. The reserve was outstanding. It was kind of late – 4pm- so we spent an hour on the beach (cold) and hiked a trail next to the marsh. Dinner was Mr. Baldy for seafood. Leftovers lasted us three days.
The next day we did another hike at the reserve, in the morning, then had breakfast and headed out to North Carolina.
