Fig! Isn’t she beautiful???? A statue next to the hotel where the conference is held. MoMA is right next door.

This was a busy week. I do not enjoy the feeling of being busy, so need a space to lay it all out… This blog is a FIG for me 🙂

Work. I knew I will be out for two days so the three days that I was at work were extra critical. I gave multiple assessments for both levels the week before and aimed to grade them before the conference. Didn’t want anything be hanging over my head. Plus, substitute plans- that takes a while. BUT. When I shut down my computer at 3pm on Wednesday, I felt a sense of accomplishment. Fig!

Family

L’s parent- teacher conference happened on Tuesday. Received very complimentary feedback about L’s learning and work ethic. She will be put into a group with her peers that are moving toward project-based learning since she mastered the basic 1st grade concepts. As a teacher myself, I see how much her teachers are doing. Can’t help but feel grateful.

Cute!!!! Fig!!

T attended R’s parent-teacher conference at his preschool. R is ready for kindergarten, can count up to 104 (??? Lol), and is starting to read. T does “words” with him every other night but I sometimes wonder if it’s memorization or true reading?… R does sound the letters out (psst, it is so cute to hear him do that). Fig!

Conference. Sharpening the professional saw for the two days is one giant, juicy FIG!

Staying overnight, for two nights, in the best city on Earth (biased), in a teeny-tiny hotel room in midtown Manhattan. FIG!

New York city lights through the window- Fig!

Thursday morning was an intense morning because I had to take a very early train into NYC. I say intense only because I had to wake up super early. While on the train, I put on some make up, read, figured out the workshops I have interest in… Changed trains in Newark, and took a train to Penn station.

At first I wanted to take the subway to 57th street, but then decided to walk. From Penn station to Hilton midtown is a good 25 minute walk up 6th avenue. I felt good, just walking and looking at shop windows and pigeons. FIG!

Two three-hour workshops ran from 8:30 to about 3:30. With a lunch break of course. NYC has so many lunch options and I went to UrbanSpace. A food court of sorts but with no Wendy’s or Burger King. I was feeling something hot so I ordered lunch from Tomo Tomo, a Japanese booth. Yummy fig!

My ramen and glass of beer (don’t remember the name but it was light).

I was done at 4, walked to the hotel, checked in, dropped off my bag. Walked to Murray Hill for an aromatherapy massage. Parts of it were painful, but at the end so yummy. Another fig!

Dinner was salad in the hotel room and an episode of Apple Cider Vinegar on Netflix. I am not sure if I liked the show but the main character’s eye makeup up is #lifegoals.

Today is another day of workshops! I Check out this FIG sign on one of the streets this morning.

Linking up with Elisabeth for this awesome initiative! Looking forward to reading other bloggers’ awesome fresh figs!

I’m glad you had such a nice time in New York City! What a treat to get away on your own for a few days, learn a few things, and enjoy the city. I love L’s Statue of Liberty drawing! Does she enjoy drawing?

Everything about that actress’s look is #lifegoals to me. The nose ring? The makeup? The slicked back hair? The perfect eyebrows? Sheesh. She’s got it together.

It sounds like you had a wonderful week! I have found it’s easier to find FIGs when I’m doing something new than on routine days. I probably should work on that.

New York City is just…so wonderful. A secret wish of mine is to live in NYC for like a year at some point in my life. Long enough for it to really feel like I know my way around, have a go-to coffee shop, etc. I’m doubting that will happen, but there is a unique magic about NYC.

Loved reading about all your FIGs ❤

And that “coffee needs coffee” – haha!

You know, me too! A year in NYC! I should have done it before I started a family and now… it’s too late.

L has such nice handwriting! Your time in Manhattan sounded wonderful. My office is in Midtown so that is where I stay when I go to NYC. I’ll be there the week of 3/10 and am looking forward to it!!

NYC is where A and I met, dated, got engaged, etc. so it’s so very special to me. And I completely agree that it’s the best city too :). It sounds like you had a fabulous time!

Wow, you (and the other commenters here) are really making me miss NYC! I haven’t been there for a LONG time. Sounds like you had a really nice couple of days- work leisure, and time to yourself. I can see why you look forward to this conference!

I surely did, Jenny, thank you! But I brought back a cold, I think. I came back on Saturday, and today is Wednesday- got sick. I was surrounded by so many people so it’s kind of a given, I guess?…
