TGIF everyone! I really mean it. This week has been oooouffff… I need this weekend.

Let’s check in on this past week.

Self: scratchy throat, feeling blah, and only did yoga once this week, on Tuesday. The days were mainly like this: go to work, muscle through, load up on “throat coat” tea, teach the material the best I can without too much talking (which actually kind of worked). Pick up the kids, come home, load up on more tea, have dinner, get the kids ready for bed, play with them, put them to bed. Didn’t even watch any shows with T this week, I was so bleghhhh. Mental health is actually doing okay, no major complaints there. The book I’m currently reading is the Change by K. Miller.

So far really great

Work: end of the marking period for all my students and some tough lessons learned, especially for my incoming 9th grade students. They learned that high school is different from middle school in terms of expectations, work ethic, and behavior. This learning experience is necessary for them. “I will teach you and help you but I can not and will not do your work for you.”- my motto for many, many years. I was also observed this past week (meaning an administrative team member comes and watches your class) and received very complimentary feedback such as “keep doing what you are doing.” We also had a potluck style Thanksgiving at our high school, among all the staff. I really do have the best colleagues.

Family: R had his jiu jitsu on Tuesday, and we went to the library on Thursday. We had a bear in R’s preschool vicinity and then in someone’s yard (!) so all kids were told to stay indoors. Where the bear came from, I have no clue. I know our local police were observing her for a while. I just hope they didn’t hurt her. After checking the news this morning I saw that she is now in the neighboring town.

OMG that bear! He does look kind of cute in the tree but also I would not want to encounter him! I hope they can get him back to an area where he belongs!! He’s not meant to be a city bear!

I hope you can ditch this sore throat. That wears a person down. Yay did good feedback when you were observed but that is not at all surprising! You are great at what you do!!

I loved The Change, I hope you enjoy it all of the way through.

Also hope that bear gets back where she belongs, that’s scary to have her in residential neighborhoods. I’ve never seen one here, though we live in a very congested area. We see deer sometimes, and I worry about them getting hit by a car. With a bear the worry is that something will happen, they will end up hurting someone or a pet, and then they may get shot. 😦

We’ve had an instance or two of a bear wandering around town and visiting different neighborhoods. We recently had a cow that was on the loose for two months or so before they were able to catch her and take her to a sanctuary. She really, really didn’t want to be caught and escaped so many times.

Love the freedom-loving cow :). Somebody needs to write a children’s book about that!!! “The Wondering Cow” or “The Cow Who Walked Free” or something like that 🙂

I think someone actually mentioned the very same thing on the neighborhood pages.

Okay, that bear is adorable but I also get a little shiver of fear imagining him near people! Go back to the wilderness little bear!

Sorry it has been such a yucky week. I hope you have time to recuperate this weekend!

Ug, I hope you are feeling better soon. That is hard to be sick when you are busy! We had a bear in one of our towns and they were watching him too, and then one day I was running in the area and I saw the bushes move and then I saw a shaggy looking thing and I thought it was the bear but it ended up being a guy thrashing around in the brush! I was a little worried for a minute there!

Yikes! I know all about that, as bears are frequent visitors around here. It’s always unnerving.

    Hope you’re feeling better!

A bear sounds really foreign to me but I guess not for you. Hope it will just wander on and not become a problem and hurt anyone.

Congrats on getting such a good feedback after being observed.

I loved LOVED that book. Kirsten Miller was in our bookclub and I gt the chance to ask many questions. I always wanted to share on my blog but never did. She has a new book out about Banned books and I really want to read it.

I hope you’re feeling better! It is so important that students know that they have your support but that they need to do things themselves – I hope you don’t have to deal with helicopter parents! I know when I was in the school councils for my kids, so many parents were so high maintenance and hard on the teachers!

And adorable bear, but poor thing, I hope it gets to safer areas.

I think he did! He is now two towns over. Poor bear ❤
No, the parents have been really supportive- of me. They respect me as a professional since I have not heard any complaints.

Oh goodness, a bear! Up in the tree. I am always amazed how they get their big bodies up there.

    I hope you feel better!
