Tobia wrote about music in her life yesterday and that inspired me to pin point some of favorite Spotify playlists.

Music is important to me: it calms me down, focuses me, lifts my mood, brightens a bad day.

  1. ADHD Hyper-fixation playlist. I do not have ADHD (at least I was never diagnosed) but this playlist is good for anyone who needs focus for some deep work. In my case: lesson and life planning, grading, and blogging. I also use it in my classroom when students are working in groups or independently.
  2. Cozy Jazz playlist. For writing, planning, cooking, getting ready in the morning.
  3. Anything by Diana Krall with a cocktail, candles burning, and a book.
  4. Evening acoustic, or afternoon acoustic. Or morning acoustic! Cozy, moody, lovely.
  5. This Christmas playlist by Leslie Odom Jr. for the holidays. I personally love his voice and the way he puts his own spin holiday favorites.
  6. Our Universe Netflix series soundtrack. Amazing, inspiring, some tracks bring tears to my eyes.

So happy to hear I inspired this post.

I don’t have a Spotify account so I could only scroll through the titles to get a feel of the lists. But daily no listening. I was interested in the acoustic list.

I often have background “zen” music when doing deep work. There are certain types of music that definitely help me focus.

When cooking or doing clean-up: random French music (Stromae, Zaz, Indila, Paris Combo).

When very angry: Visotskiy (at top volume)

I’m going to check out Diana Krall!

Oh man, throwback! I have not listened to Diana Krall in a while. Her songs used to be part of the soundtrack at the retail store that my boyfriend at the time worked at in the early 2000s! I love music, and every kind of it. I used to have an instrumental playlist that I used when I studied on the bus, and I often listen to rap or upbeat music when I run. As you probably know, I also have a Pick Me Up playlist that I polled everyone about; I had each person tell me two songs that they listen to when they need a pick me up and I have a list of over a hundred and it is very fun! Maybe I will write a post about it (I actually have had one in my drafts for a while, but if not now, when?)

I’m not really good at naming music I like. I can’t explain it. I enjoy music, but I am not great at spotify or playlists and I rarely remember the names of songs I like, and I often struggle to identify the names of singers or songwriters. I blame my lack of music know-how on the fact that my folks only had an am radio in our cars growing up, and my dad blared traditional Irish music and my mom listened to Elvis or John Denver or Neil Diamond. That said, I like: U2. Prince. The Cure. Yep, that’s about it. I like other groups, but I’m drawing a blank. I know – I’m strange this way. I currently like to (oh, and Bob Dylan) ask Alexa to play The Cure radio. Takes me back to high school and that music was so good.

I would like to listen to more music but then I forget to do it. I love that you have different playlists for different times.

I basically have one playlist and it has everything I like in it. I honestly haven’t played music in a long time, I used to always have music playing in the background. Nowadays I seem to prefer silence. But there are days, like cleaning days, when I want to blast some music. I’m mainly a rock/pop kind of person, going back to the hits from the 70s all the way to now. I will hear a song and it brings back vivid memories of where I was and who I was with at that time. I love that about music.

These are great playlists. I like music on in the background sometimes, but it can be difficult to find something that isn’t distracting. Thanks for the ideas.

These are great recs! I need something in the background during my focused work time, and I can’t wait to give a few of these a try.

Thank you for the playlist. I usually play Spanish music while my students are working but I think it can be distracting. I’ll try the ADHD one. And share it with my daughter!

I love the cozy nook in the photo!

This is probably the opposite of your ADHD playlist, but when I need to write to a deadline, I sometimes play action movie soundtracks to get me going. Music by Trent Reznor is a favorite…
