Daily writing prompt
What bothers you and why?

Thanks, WordPress, for a thought-provoking prompt. Time to unpack.

1. It bothers me when my house is not picked up. Why? Probably makes me feel like I am not in control.

2. It bothers me when there is too much clutter accumulation. Why? Too much visual stimulation.

3. It bothers me when I lose something, no matter how trivial. Why? See: control.

4. It bothers me if/when I am surrounded by many people, for long periods of time, in an enclosed space (i.e. a conference). Why? I am an introvert.

5. It bothers me when instead of just listening and nodding, people jump in and offer solutions/strategies. Sometimes I need to just be listened to, really listened to.

6. It bothers me when the bedsheets have not been changed. Why? I love clean sheets.

7. It bothers me when a piece of meat fiber gets stuck in my teeth. Why? I have Invisalign so it happens quite often now that my teeth shifted a bit.

8. It bothers me when rain falls into my neck collar. Why? Startling and uncomfortable.

9. It bothers me when I am the only one reaching out. Then when I see a person, they go “We haven’t seen you in a while!” Me saying out loud: “I KNOW!” Me thinking: “You have a phone, too, you know. You can reach out. You need to reciprocate. We are all busy.” I have had a few friends who I stopped reaching out to because they just would never take initiative. So I stopped.

10. It bothers me when people leave lights on in the rooms they are not using. Why? I am cheap.

YOU?

So many silly things bother me.

Messes. I just feel so much better mentally when things are in order (but that’s hard to manage with two kiddos in the house!)

When people (I WON’T NAME WHO, but it’s ONE PERSON ONLY in my fmaily) who turns the spray function on in our kitchen sink to rinse dishes at the high speed and then water sprays all over the floor. THAT bothers me.

    Emptying icky garbage cans.

    Being cold.

Too much overstimulation. I really need downtime to unwind.

I totally get where you’re coming from with the things that bother you. It’s interesting to see how these little annoyances can have deeper meanings or reasons behind them.

Feeling like you’re not in control when your house isn’t picked up makes a lot of sense. It’s like having a tidy space gives you a sense of order and control in your surroundings.

Clutter accumulation can definitely be overwhelming. Too much visual stimulation can be distracting and make it hard to focus or relax.

I understand the need for just being listened to without getting immediate solutions or strategies thrown at you. Sometimes, all you need is a listening ear.

Clean sheets are the best! There’s something so comforting about fresh, clean bedsheets.

It’s also understandable that as an introvert, being in crowded spaces for extended periods can be draining.

Love that you can see the larger theme— so helpful! I feel generally unbothered right now, but this is purely a function of hormone fluctuation, and I am sure that in a few days absolutely everything will bother me in every possible way.

I am 100% with you on #4 and 5. And, I have a nit-picky one… it bothers me when other people in my family take something but leave the packaging behind… like, SOMEONE (not naming names) took the last AAA batteries out but left the package sitting on the shelf… leading me to believe that there were still batteries there, when the package was actually empty. This happens with food as well- like I’ll find an empty box (that used to contain crackers) in the pantry. Now that I think about it, this happens so often I think I need to call a family meeting about it!

Hi, I understand and agree with all except for #7. I am a pescatarian hehe.😅 I hate when my husband and kids leave lights on in the rooms. They waste money and energy. By the way, I am a mom of 4 (11, 10, 6 & under 2) and an educator. 😊

These are all so good, Daria! I’m with you on most of them. It’s important to figure out WHY something bothers us! I think it helps diffuse the negative energy.

My list of what bothers me is quite long since I am kind of particular about things. The top thing that bothers me is when people are late!! I feel like it is so disrespectful!!
