On Friday the kids and I went to “Hayrides and Campfires” event at the Watchung Reservation. We rode around the reservation in a tractor, toasted marshmallows and hot chocolate, and listened to a guitar player. It was after dark- 6:30- and we our tractor was escorted by NJ Police. R was excited to see the lights. When we arrived and parked, the sun was setting and the sky was spectacular!

On Saturday I took the kids to their weekly gymnastics lesson. While they jumped and rolled around, I sat in the car and just…caught up on life. I am trying to take better care of my aging skin so, after doing some research and going by what Rebecca from LagLiv is doing, I decided to try skin cycling routine for my face. I purchased four products at Sephora since I ran out of my serum and my day cream this past week. I feel uncomfortable paying so much ($187) for four products but I feel like, at 42, I want to invest a bit more into my face.

The rest of our Saturday was very low key since it was raining cats and dogs. A few movies (Bug’s Life and Ratatouille). Reading. Cleaning. Also priced out some travel for summer 2024 for kids and I for about 12 days. On a generous side, Japan will cost about $7,000: flights=4,500, Tokyo stay=1,000 for one week, Kyoto stay= $600 for five days, shinkansen rail pass- not sure how much, spending money = 1,000. Total= $7,000+ Keep dreaming, Daria.

On Sunday the kids went to Home Depot with T while I stayed back and organized for the upcoming week. After they came back, we went hiking at the reservation. The day was crisp and sunny (what a change from yesterday) and the kids spent most of the hike throwing rocks into the stream.

Awesome Stuff

Signing off and sharing a list of awesome stuff.

  1. Voice Memo app (comes with my iPhone). Started using it to record a reminder one day while driving and end up recording quite a few audio files with last one being affirmations and goals. Gotta say, affirmations are powerful when you are listening to your own voice.
  2. LoFi playlist on Spotify
  3. Asian Food Market in our neighborhood. Went on Friday afternoon and got snacks such as rice crackers, panda cookies, pastry rolls, hot foods (duck and bbq chicken). They have an awesome frozen foods section where we like to get beef/fish/chicken balls, frozen gyoza and edamame as well as a variety of dumplings. They have so many types of noodles, and a huge tea section. Each time we go, we discover new foods.

Have a great week!

Oolong is my favorite kind of tea! I love the Asian market too. I definitely have a noodle problem – I think at any given time there are five or six different kind of noodles in my pantry and freezer. The Husband always asks why I need so many kind of noodles. He clearly does not understand the nuances of noodles.
We went to Japan six years ago, when we just had one kid. We spent five days in Kyoto and one day in Tokyo and really enjoyed the whole trip. We had been to Taiwan to visit family and it seemed like Japan was a good trip to add on to that Taiwan trip. My parents want to go to Taiwan again next summer and I can’t decide if we should go to Japan again or not. It would be an easy trip, but part of me wants to go somewhere we haven’t been before. Someone suggested Malaysia as a very easy and child friendly trip.
    What beautiful fall pictures!

I am Russian and have a connection to Asia since in Russian cuisine there are asian elements, plus we share many borders with Central Asia and China. Oolong is so fragrant! Never tried it before and loved it.

That event on Friday night sounded like so much fun! My boys would love that. And Taco would be most thrilled about seeing a police car. He is very into emergency vehicles and all vehicles in general! Paul and I are going to a pumpkin event at the zoo next Saturday. It starts at 7 so we will leave Taco back with daddy. Plus it requires a lot of walking and is not super stroller friendly since there are lots of people on the path. But Paul and I are excited to go again!

I keep thinking I need to up my face care game… and then get overwhelmed and forget to make a plan… I did get some tretinoid from the dermatologist but have not been great about using it as often as i should! I need to work on that. But I have to use it every 2-3 days so it’s tricky to get the schedule down. It would be easier if I wore it daily.

I was in the exact same boat with skin care but then I was like “just bloody do it. Spend some time, decide what to do and just go for it.” We’ll see if it works. And if not? Oh well, at least I tried 🙂

Such a beautiful week and reflections! I love Asian market but go about once-twice a year to get some fresh persimmons 🙂 it is about that time, as they usually get here around beginning of November.
Your weekend seems to joyful and peaceful! Thanks for sharing some glimpses of your wonderful family with us! Sending hugs!

I love asian market and always stock up frozen dumplings. it’s comfort food for me and I always have dumplings the night before my long runs. it’s also great place to buy fresh vegetables, usually cheaper than other chains.
skin cycling? never heard of it. please share how you find it.
Japan is actually becoming cheaper due to currency depreciation. I was there one day and found everything cheaper than before. obviously the flight could still be expensive but eating out must be cheaper now.

Hey Coco! In essence, you do this:
Night 1: clean face, exfoliate, moisturize
Night 2: clean face, retinol, moisturize
Nights 3 and 4: clean face, moisturize
And keep repeating the cycle every four days.

I just went to an Asian market with my husband! It is so fun, and it makes me want to go to Japan. It also makes me want to buy a million things! We walked out with only a thousand things, phew!

Looking forward to reading about your skin cycling project. I would love to do some “fun” things with my skin, but it breaks out if I look at it wrong, so I am sticking to my plain old Cetaphil and CeraVe.

I’m inching up on 60, and I should have upped my skin care game 20 years ago. I went down that rabbit hole based on your link, and I may have purchased a few things…

Vacations are SO lovely, and SO expensive. Ugh.

My problem is I am cheap so shelling out $60 for a face cream feels painful 🤔 but I am working on it.

Uff. The world news is so heavy these days. I am grasping at the ordinary myself. I went and hugged my co-worker from Gaza today. I feel so terrible for him and his family.

We have a big international market (80% Asian and then also Russian/German/MiddleEastern stuff and you’d probably love it 😉
