My son R is five years old. He wants: Minecraft Legos, other types of Legos, Transformers , and other building materials. This kid is a BUILDER. His stocking: more Legos, Kinder eggs, soap in a canister for his baths, small cars. Other things he can build with.

My daughter L is older, she is seven, soon to be eight. She wants a key chain (??), a La BooBoo doll, a dress with stars, a science kit to make potions, a kit to make bracelets, a kit to make slime, a kit to make lipgloss. A kit to make [insert whatever here]. Her stocking: K-pop demon hunters, candy, cats, nail polish, lip gloss, bath bombs. Other cute things.

What I will get them in addition to the above: books.

My husband. We don’t get each other a whole lot. I think, we have it at 3-4 simple gifts each? I have some ideas up my sleeve but can’t blog about it since he reads this blog.

Finally, the most important person:

medium size but thick and real gold hoop earrings (think Bony Levi)

sneakers (V. Beard, Blondo or Zara)

An evening dress to wear at theater (think green or blue velvet)

Golden heels with straps (to wear with the above dress)

A trip or two

Stocking stuffers: all things cats and books, or mugs and tea bags.

Of course, none of us NEED anything but we sure want things or experiences, no?

What’s on your holiday wishlist?

This month I am participating in #NaBloPoMo2025. A running list of participants can be found on San’s NaBloPoMo page as well as more information about this lovely initiative on this NaBloPoMo page.

Okay, I need to know more about the gold heels. I would LOVE some fabulous gold dress shoes (and a dress to wear them with), but I don’t even know where to start.

I love the idea of the evening dress and the golden shoes! And the travel!

I have asked for patriotic but not goofy envelope seals, and an 8″ glass pie pan, and a few other things. As I was making my list, I realized that I have become super picky.

Your son’s list reminds me of when I (foolishly) handed my son (maybe 8 years old at the time?) a Lego catalog and asked him to circle which ones he might want as a gift. He circled all of them.

Your daughter’s list leads me to brazenly recommend to you Svaha USA and Princess Awesome as potential sources for a dress with stars (they make sizes for both kids and adults) and science-themed clothing in general. I’ve bought several for my science aficionado daughter and for myself. I think it’s high quality cotton clothing.

I love exchanging holiday lists with our now-adult children and I send them my list too. My husband dislikes making a list. He wants us to guess what he wants, but I think that just leads to agony (on my part) and potential waste (on the world’s part).

I love both of your children’s lists. They both seem very creative, one in an engineering way and the other scientific and artsy.

A pretty dress and nice shoes for the theater doesn’t sound like an outrageous request. I know you love going to the theater, and a nice dress always makes you feel good about yourself.

Will your husband buy you shoes and an evening dress? Or do you kind of set it aside and have him wrap it? I’m trying to imagine the logistics of this happening in my own house.

That’s a good question… I don’t know. In all honestly, I can buy it for myself but that takes the joy out of it… I have to think about it.

I love both kids’ lists- I LOVE the Lego phase, and the good news is, it never has to end (my son still liked getting Legos and he’s 22). And i love your daughter’s list- she’ll have plenty to do on the Christmas break.

Your list is fabulous! I’ll also be interested to hear how/if you get these things. They don’t sound like things your husband can really pick out?

My list is les glamorous- books, and maybe a new Garmin. My husband likes to surprise me with clothes, which usually have to be exchanged and/or returned. But I appreciate the effort!

Oh, L is a girl after my own heart… I’d love a dress with stars, too :)I had to chuckle when you said that you and your husband don’t give each other a whole lot. Maybe 3-4 simple gifts (define simple!). Jon and I often don’t exchange gifts at all – Jon is really hard to shop for, and while I think I am not, he just doesn’t enjoy shopping for gifts, or in general. (HOW BORING!).

My number 1 wish would be to spend the holidays with family (but it doesn’t look like that’s in the cards this year).

Our boys are builders, too. They have really gotten into plus pluses this year as they have them at the aftercare program. So they will likely both get plus pluses. They also circled a ton of things in the Amazon catalog. I need to go through it and see if anything is legit/worth adding to the list. We asked for a lot of experience type of gifts for them – like gift certs to local museums, a ski hill, etc.

Phil and I do not exchange gifts. We are just not gift people at all. He is so hard to shop for because he really does not want a single thing. So I am relieved we don’t have to shop for each other! His mom will get some things for me but if I could get her to stop, I would. But we are the only people she has to shop for and she likes having lots of presents under the tree so I just let it go. My parents give us cash and warm socks which I love.

Coach and I do not exchange gifts – or, usually we don’t. He bought an air fryer one year ‘for me’, but he uses it. I think it takes up too much space on the kitchen counter and it beeps at me too much when I use it.

My Christmas list includes not having to buy many gifts. Coach buys zero gifts and usually comes up with almost no ideas. I’d like to maybe get everyone something small and then travel somewhere warm for a few days. But – we have lots of schedules and people to involve and haven’t looked at airfare prices. So, that may not happen.

I’d love a fireplace with a switch that I could flip to have a fire whenever we wanted. We might be getting new garage doors and a new opener. Exciting stuff?

I also love the LEGO phase. And I laughed at all the bracelet and art kids. My 13 yo still likes those.

I don’t have anything on my Christmas wishlist, but I have my eye on some gold heels that I want to try to get to the city and buy this week. They are to wear to my son’s wedding, my only other wedding shoes are silver heels and my dress has touches of gold on it.

L and I would have gotten along GREAT as children because I always loved those artsy kits, too! So much fun!

This year, I really want a new reading chair for my office and a new Kindle.
