I am not much of a foodie and would eat anything. I grew up on oatmeal and potatoes, my diet lacking fresh vegetables and fruit. Till this day, I very much appreciate a nice, fresh piece of fruit.

Below are my top five favorite meals.

Chinese vegetables in oyster sauce. Last week in Chinatown, NYC

1.Fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and scallions salad, with sour cream and dill.

2. A hearty chili. With cheese, avocado, red onion and sour cream.

3. Sashimi, seaweed salad, steamed bokchoi

4.Borscht with buttered rye bread and sour cream.

5. A nice piece of prime rib with roasted potatoes and some vegetables.

Dessert…

I am not big of sweets but I do appreciate a nice tiramisu or some vanilla ice cream with hot fudge.

Drinks… Water or hot black tea, with milk and sugar.

What did you eat as a child? What is your favorite meal as an adult?

This month I am participating in #NaBloPoMo2025. A running list of participants can be found on San’s NaBloPoMo page as well as more information about this lovely initiative on this NaBloPoMo page.

My favorite meal is and will always be extra thick cinnamon toast and crispy french fries with a fountain Diet Coke. Add a dessert of a soft chocolate chip cookie or apple pie and it’s pretty ideal for me, haha!

Potatoes baked in hot coals in an outdoor fire pit. Favorite thing ever. With a bit of salt and sour cream.

I grew up on Eastern European food, with occasional taste of Armenian and Georgian food thanks to family friends.

Your #1 and #4 YES! Except dark bread rubbed with garlic (my kids thought I lost the plot when they saw me do it)

Also love stuffed cabbage (golubci). And pickled cabbage. And herring with sliced onions and boiled potatoes.

We may not have had the variety of fruit growing up, but fresh berries from the forest – blueberries, raspberries, wild strawberries… nothing compares. And apples picked from semi-wild trees… so sour but sooo good. And sunflowers stealthily snatched from a nearby collective farm…

I couldn’t begin to choose my favourite food, although if we go out and there is duck on the menu I will often order it. We had a lot of meat and three veg growing up, but my parents traveled a lot so when we were teenagers mum branched out and we would have thai green curry. She is an excellent cook and cooks a wide variety of food.

I love fresh vegetables cooked well! I will often order eggplant at a restaurant, because I love it and my family is meh on it. Other things…vanilla ice cream with fresh raspberries is SO GOOD. Potato chips are my downfall. Pasta…I could eat pasta 4 or 5 days a week and not get tired of it, though I would want it cooked different ways.

I grew up without fresh fruit or veggies because my mom was a picky eater – not because they weren’t available, My mom did buy bananas, but I didn’t like them. I still don’t, but I’ll add them to a protein shake. I have a sweet tooth – we had dessert after dinner almost without fail. Such a bad habit.

Nowadays I like grilled chicken and I love balsamic chicken and peppers. I love a chopped salad minus any pasta (celiac disease). I love chili in the winter – my chili recipe is my fav. I love filet, but rarely eat that. I love ice cream and GF cake, so long as it doesn’t taste like it’s GF.

My favorite food will forever be fresh bread with butter, vegetable stews, and potatoes with herbed quark (similar to Greek yogurt).

Also coffee, tea and water and the occasional apple juice with sparkling water.

My favourite meal is Greek salad with pita and hummus. I could eat that every day for the rest of my life!

We didn’t have the variety of fruits and vegetables in stores when I was a kid. Now there’s so much to choose from! I like basic food: eggs, milk, cheese, pasta, meat. I’m not very adventurous!

I don’t know what my favorite meal is, but fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and scallions salad, with sour cream and dill made me laugh a bit because that would be a snack for me!

Grilled cheese and tomato soup then and now. The cook in my sorority house made it the best, but I am working on finding my perfect recipes.

Oooh I love a hearty chili and a tiramisu! One thing my mom did (and still does) that I wish I’d gotten in the habit of doing is serving a salad with every single meal. It’s usually very simple, just lettuce and dressing and maybe a carrot or a cucumber. But it always felt so nourishing. I really need to try to do that more often.

I really like pasta w/ lemon and veggies or cacio e pepe. I also love salads with a really good vinaigrette that my mom makes. As far as sweets, I love brownies and pies.

I would not have guesses any of these. here are mine, which has been for over 2 decades: oatmeal, corn, kabocha, tofu, broccolini. I’m the most boring person on earth regarding food. 🙂
