I had some wine on Friday night because, Friday, and Halloween, and block party. I didn’t have dinner, just some sweets. The result: half a Saturday was wasted on feeling human again.

Another half a Saturday was spent cleaning the house and doing laundry.

Sunday, however, was fun.

We went to a diner. Went to Aldi to replenish our vegetables. A friend came over with her kids so we played outside a lot.

Then my daughter and I went ice skating. So wonderful, and I think it’s gonna be a hobby of mine moving forward.

Thank gawd for those red things

We were at the ice rink for two hours! We were skating, falling and skating again. And falling. We both used the “learn to skate” red supports, but by the end I could hold my own, without support. This was a wonderful Sunday activity that I would definitely do again.

Going into the upcoming week I am feeling kind of fried…

Thankfully, I only have two days of work: Monday and Wednesday. Tuesday is Election Day, and Thursday and Friday is NJ educator convention with all public schools closed.

Some loose plans are: skating, Friendly’s, and a day trip to NYC, Chinatown and the museum of ice cream. I want to see the Tenement museum but I don’t think the kids would be interested in that.

This month I am participating in #NaBloPoMo2025. A running list of participants on can be found on San’s NaBloPoMo page as well as more information about this lovely initiative on this NaBloPoMo page.

I could totally get behind ice skating with that support! It sounds like a busy weekend, I hope you have a good week.

I would totally get behind ice skating with one of those supports.

I hope your week ahead is mellow enough!

Sue here visiting from NaBloPoMo! I definitely relate to the feeling fried! I didn’t even have wine on Friday, but sat in a “gaming” chair at a friend’s house while getting up and handing out candy and watching the baseball game and I too took half of Saturday to feel human! I’m old. Lol. I also thought how sore I would be if I were to go try and ice skate for two hours. That might take a whole day to feel human after. So good for you with that!! I am jealous of you for a day trip to NYC as well! My daughter was just saying last night that she wants to go back to NYC. She went for her 8th grade trip and loved it, but it was during the fires, so it was smoky and a lot of things they were going to do got canceled. I may try to go out with her in 2026. My husband went to college in Manhattan and swears he will never go back! 🙂 Thanks for the post! I look forward to reading them all in November!

The kids might like the tenement museum since it’s so interactive. I did a tour about shop owners and you got to see their living quarters and shops and such. I did that back in 2013 and loved it so much! I would go back in a heart beat.

Enjoy your short week! We have Tuesday off for the election as well but the kids have childcare from the after school program. So it’s a regular day for us. Our educator conference was back in October but we did not go anywhere as tickets were so expensive. It’s nice that you live close to so many things to do! If I could hop on a train to NYC I would!!

I’ve never been to the Tenement museum and always wanted to -maybe I’ll give it a shot!

Looks and sounds like a fun time. I would definitely need one of those supports for ice skating, I would never be able to stand on my own two feet.

I love skating, and I’m surprised you, my sweet Russian friend doesn’t skate already! I thought that it was a rule in Canada AND Russia that you have to learn to skate as a kid. This reminded me how much I love it, and I don’t have skates anymore – must rectify this situation!

I’m also feeling kind of fried. I’ve been feeling that way for a while (and it seems like you have too). I hope we both feel better after our grading periods are over and our grades are finalized. May Thanksgiving break provide the rest we require!

I’m impressed you liked ice skating. I find it very difficult and pretty stressful! I hope you get to go more this fall and winter!

The ice skating looks like so much fun! Those skate supports are a genius idea. I always wished I could skate, but I never could get the hang of it, and falling was too much ouch for me! 😂

I used to go ice-skating every winter when I still lived in Germany. I haven’t done it in a few years… so fun you’re doing this! 🙂

Ice skating is so much fun. I actually own two pair of skates but I never go to the ice rink. I am not a fan of going in circles and I grew up skating on lakes. But they rarely freeze. Unfortunately. I am excited you find this could be a new hobby.
