I took off on Monday since my son was struggling with congestion the week prior, not sleeping, coughing and just being overall miserable. Took him to the pediatrician: acute sinusitis. As I type this on Saturday he is definitely feeling better.

At work things were okay-ish: we are wrapping up the first marking period and I’ve been grading a lot. I try to have two graded assignments per week, of a variety of modalities (speaking, listening, reading, writing, etc). I think I gave all good, interesting lessons and no super-annoying behavior from students.

The drive to work on Wednesday

On Tuesday I saw my friend at jiu jitsu and could catch up with her. On Wednesday my daughter had her piano lesson, and on Thursday another jiu jitsu session for my son.

Halloween. It is fair to say that Halloween for us started on Thursday night. The jiu jitsu studio did a Halloween celebration for the kids and it was so cute! My sons age group (5-6 y.o) had games, races and, of course, candy. All of the kids showed up in costumes.

BJJ Halloween celebration

On Friday it was October 31 and it was ONNNN. Costumes, candy, and our first ever Halloween block party.

My son… I mean Optimus Prime
Rumi
A middle aged Renaissance woman- me
The Babadook (minus the hands)

At my high school we had a few students in costumes but not a lot. Many staff were dressed up. It was a light day, and it was Friday, and it was Halloween. Sole kids didn’t quite understand who I was- the red riding hood? A red witch? A vampire? I don’t blame them since I also don’t know what this dress is about. I only know that it’s warm, velvety, and long. I guess it’s a Renaissance dress?..

The block party was awesome, the street was closed, the neighbors out, tables set up. People were there till dark. The kids ran around, did crafts, played, ate candy. Some trick-or-treaters, who don’t live on the street, wandered in and joined the fun.

How was your Halloween?

Wow- i want to come to your neighborhood next year! This looks so fun. We don’t get many trick or treaters these days, which is a little sad. My husband is also a teacher and he and his team all dressed up as characters from Shrek, and they won the best costume prize. I couldn’t dress up for work, but I did wear a “spooky” halloween hair clip.

    Glad you’re doing NaBloPoMo again!

We had zero trick-or-treaters, so like Jenny, I would love to have hung out in your neighborhood for Halloween! I love your costume, even if it is a bit ambiguous.

The block party looks fun! Our neighborhood goes crazy for Halloween so we started at a neighbor’s house for dinner and then roamed around and caught a few haunted houses.

The Babadook is the second scariest movie I have ever seen. We literally had to stop it in the middle because I was having an anxiety attack. LOL. That is all.

It was quite creepy! For me, probably the Insidious…

(Oh, the scariest movie is The Descent because I have a serious problem with enclosed spaces.)

We used to live in a street that had a Christmas party and it was fun, but then we moved to a much busier street so there was no chance of doing that. What great fun for the kids, and makes for an enjoyable Halloween for everyone. We don’t do Halloween but my parents put a pumpkin and some fake spider webs in their front gardem brcause my 5-yo neice was ocming down over the weekend.

Your block party looked fun! And you look amazing in that red dress! Dang! Red is your color!

We had a great Halloween. It was cold and drizzly but that didn’t slow the boys down. Then we had 2 parties yesterday!
