Last week was kind of hard but I was committed to doing the “what I wore” post so I made sure to take those picture every work day.

Before I comment on my outfits, let me preface by saying that I like clothes. I like to look put together and it is *surprisingly* good for my mental health.

I tend to favor clothes from these retailers: Nordstrom Rack and Bloomingdale’s. I wish I had buckets of money to update my wardrobe from scratch but… no.

Disclaimer: all photos have filters on them because I am insecure, and clothes and people overall look better with filters.

Also, note to self: move stuff out of the way when you are taking selfies in your coat closet in the hallway. Too late now, will do better next time.

Also, note to self #2: smile..next time?

Tuesday, 10/21. Full day of work. Jiu jitsu lesson after work for my 5 year old son. Solo parenting because T was away on business.

Sweater : Nordstrom Rack( 2024), pants: Bloomingdale’s (2025) and boots (2025), DSW. Earrings: some dollar store in France.

I felt good in this outfit. It had a long day but I felt comfy yet put together in both working and taking my youngest kid to activities after work. I was warm, and nothing was tugging on/at me. Yes to this outfit!

Wednesday, 10/22. Full day of work. Piano for my daughter after work. Solo parenting.

Picture taken in my school’s staff bathroom

I also felt good in this outfit. Blazer and pants: Bloomingdale’s; boots and sweater: Rack. The blazer is a bit loose on me but I kind of like it. It’s very soft and warm. Felt good in this outfit: definitely warm and comfortable, except the feet, those are Sam Edelman booties and, at the end of the day, my feet were hurting a little.

Thursday, 10/23. More of the same, work a full day, jiu jitsu lesson for my son, AND I had a close friend over for a very informal dinner. Solo parenting.

This was a sweater dress in deep red from Nordstrom Rack (bought in 2024). Knee-high boots from Nordstroms (2021). Coat is Avec Les Filles from Nordstrom Rack (2025). I felt good in the outfit, albeit the boots are not the most comfortable (Vince Camuto, 2021). I aim to wear what I have as much as I can, so I want to wear those boots more often but… they are not that comfortable.

Friday, 10/24. Same as before: a full day of work, except I got to go straight home – T was back from his business trip and took R to his BJJ instead of me.

Clothes: blazer from Bloomingdale’s (2025), sweater (2024) from *I forget the company* on Facebook (2024), pants are from Nordstrom (NYDJ, 2021), and booties are from Bloomingdales (2025). This is the first time I wore these booties and they were very comfortable. I envision wearing them a lot, with mustard colored tights, a skirt, a sweater dress, jeans, etc.

And bonus…. Today, Sunday, I wore:

Bloomingdale’s blazer, some T-shirt from Amazon, jeans from Rack and *not pictured, lug sole boots from Rack.

Sunday. All I did was go to Aldi and a cafe

And that’s a wrap on what I wore this past week and weekend.

And, as we are getting ready for a new week, I made my outfits today for the upcoming week:

Keeping in mind that Friday is Halloween!

What is your relationship with clothes? Do you like it? Does it impact your mental health? Do you make your outfits in advance or do you wing it? I’d love to know.

I definitely agree that if I am on a mission dress “better” (ie actually try and put some real outfits together/WEAR more of my clothes vs just defaulting to leggings and the same old stuff), it helps a ton to post and/or photograph outfits! I always fear that it might be annoying to people but I was not the least bit annoyed by this post and actually found it super fun to read, so, I think maybe that is in my head and I should let that fear go?

Interestingly, when I make outfits in advance, I use whatever I have and don’t just stick to same ol’ same ol’ stuff. But again talk to me in March, when I’m super burned out 🙂

Organizing your clothes for the week makes everything so much easier, right? When I was thin I loved clothes and putting together outfits. My 50s have been rough in that area, and now I don’t feel like I look great in anything, so unlikely you will see a post like this from me. I will say that when I feel put together, I do feel better.

It sure does make things easier, especially when I don’t have to think in the mornings. I struggle with confidence but I think good clothes make me feel better.

Oh thank you Kari. I’ve been debating- to dye or not to dye my hair?… for now it’s natural but when I get more grays I think I will start dying it.

I love clothes and I love fashion and I love all your outfits! I also like to put myself together every day.

You are very stylish! I especially love that red dress. You look great in everything and I love how your personality comes out in your clothes.

Yes it sure does Nicole. That red dress is very comfortable but it is not warm, it is rather thin. I feel like a cardigan makes me warmer.

You know, I have always cared about my clothes, but I was as, if not more, interested in how comfortable I felt, and rarely “dressed up,” even for work. I used to say that wearing jeans to work was a dress up day for me, because I wore my Vuori joggers to school a fair amount. But this year something has shifted and I’m not really sure why. Maybe it’s just because I’m getting older? Now I wear slacks or a skirt to school most days, and when I wear jeans it feels like I’m dressing down. It has definitely helped me come to terms with the weight gain associated with my thyroid medication. I don’t know. I’m trying to embrace the change, even if I’m not sure where it’s coming from. It makes me feel good about myself to wear “nicer” outfits, so I’m doing that. I also thinks it helps my presence as the “adult” in the room with my students.

I love all your looks for last week, especially the last two days. I love a funky sweater. 😉

Wow we are rarely allowed to wear jeans at work. We can only do jeans on “dress down Fridays” which are rare. I live in dresses and tights, or shirts and slacks. I wouldn’t dare wear leggings to work. We are very up tight in my school! lol

I love all your outfits—you are so stylish. I don’t think about clothes that much. Most days I am in jeans and I have a fairly minimalist wardrobe. I recently bought a dress to wear to my son’s wedding and I would like to also get a less formal new dress for summer that I can wear to a festival at the end of November.

Hi Melissa, I am also fairly minimalist and I wear all the clothes I own. Or at least the intention is there. Even my summer dresses I try to style in such a way that I can wear them in fall, tight, boots, sweater.. this way I buy less..

I love seeing your style – you always look so put together! I think shoes are my weakness. I don’t own many, and I don’t often wear shoes since I work from home, but in your outfits I can see how it totally pulls together what you are wearing. Also, blazers! You look great in all the photos.

Improving my wardrobe will probably be a goal for next year. I managed to only have clothes I like and wear after my 2024 goal, but now I don’t have many things left… it would be nice to have some more fun options.

Love all your fall outfits! those pop of color are make me smile.

I am moody dresser, what I wear reflect my mood of the day, somedays playful, other days serious, most days just simple and comfortable. On non-work day, I have a normal outfit which is jean short and t-shirt, or athletic leisure look which is comfy and cute.

Hi Coco, i shoot for the same thing. The weather also plays a role, especially in NJ. I feel like on Fridays I wear brighter colors.. but yes I have to be comfortable otherwise I can’t get through the day.

Love all of your outfits for the week. Such a good idea to make them up beforehand, so you’re rotating through your wardrobe and not just reaching for the same old stuff. Your sweater with the daisies on it is so perfectly whimsical, and you look good in everything 🌞

I love the idea of putting outfits together, but I often end up wearing the same boring things (jeans and basic tees and often hoodies. I feel comfortable in them, but I know that I could also “up my game a bit”.) You definitely have your own style and I love that you enjoy playing with colors.

Hey San, I tend to stick with the same slacks and sweaters but I do feel better when I put more thought into the outfit.

Oh my gosh I love this so so much.

All of your outfits look amazing. I secretly wish I was more elegant in my clothing choice as it would make me look more professional but I am leaning to the quirky side more.

I love that red dress. Amazing color. Also in love with Wednesdays outfit.
