This week has been… a lot. I started this post on Tuesday and now it’s Friday.

Work

Work has been busy since we are finishing a unit and starting a new one in both levels. As a final project in my level 3 class the students are researching global food insecurity and synthesizing all of that information into a poster. Then they will participate in a Socratic seminar to discuss this global issue. Spanish 2 students has just finished their first unit and will had their final verbal assessment, in a large group, in class and many loved it.

Feelings about work. This week, I am doing well at work- I like the students, I like the material, and I feel creative. I like teaching, MOST days. My days are different depending on a rotation and this week I only have ONE intense day, with 5 classes. This week work feels productive and efficient.

Family

Everyone is healthy and wealthy. Both kids are doing well in school, and they like their aftercare. L is in piano on Wednesdays, plus at least 15 minutes daily practice. Her piano teacher gives a lot of work which is good.

A breakthrough with my daughter and her piano practice: using Post-it notes to record her piano practices and the compositions she is expected to play. I think she may be a visual learner so seeing the song titles and how many times she played them is helpful. We used the timer for piano for a while but never the Post-it notes.

My 5 year old is in Brazilian jiu jitsu, three times a week. My husband is working, and prepping the house for Halloween, and drowning in the butler’s pantry painting project. It’s a small room that is connected to the kitchen and has to be primed and painted and it’s a huge PAIN in you know what. So very close to being finished! *I wrote that on Monday; actually it is finished!

I signed up for the free trial of Walmart+. It’s a delivery service for Walmart products, and I love it. For now, the delivery is free but after November 7th I may have to cough up 14.99 per month?.. Not sure if I will keep it but it’s such a time saver! I ordered groceries on Sunday morning and they delivered by the afternoon. No minimums. No fresh veggies or fruit, however. For those I have to go to Aldi.

I think it’ll come in handy for those weeks when T is away and it’s me and the kids.

Friends

I have not had any friend time lately. However, my sister friend’s 50th birthday dinner is on the 18th!

Self

Been feeling the need to crawl into a hole and stay there. Been protecting my alone time and mental health. Doing yoga in the mornings and evenings. Meditation. Walks. Books. Limited news. I can feel myself going within (where it’s quiet). Not sure whether it is due to the onset of fall or because the world has been shit for a while now.

You are busy, busy, busy! I can see why you crave some quiet, alone time. Walmart + sounds like a great service. I would much rather shop online and have it delivered than go to Walmart. We’re too far away from a Walmart to get same-day delivery, but I can have things shipped if I need to.

I love the drawings! So cute!

Delivery is great when you are busy and makes sense for you being so busy with work, kids and home. I did it a bit when the kids were younger, the worst was when they were out of stock in something you’d planned to make for dinner on the night of the delivery. Grrr! That was the main reason I stopped doing it, because even if you allowed substitutions, the substitutions they would sometimes make, wouldn’t work. Walmart may be better though.

What a good idea with the Post-its. Everyone is different with how they are motivated and organised, it’s great that you persisted to find something that works for L.

We pay £8 a month for unlimited delivery (£40 minimum per order) and it’s well worth it for us. If i had to go to a shop, even to collect a delivery, it would take me 20-30 minutes. I do miss feeling inspired or getting sale items, but I love knowing that someone will bring me bananas and apples and milk and bread and all the other things with 24 hours notice. Same day delivery is amazing though (although lack of fresh fruit/veg is not).

    I love the picture!

Having groceries delivered is sometimes such a relieve. Our services here are usually without fees if you reach a certain amount. Which can be tricky to reach for just two people and I add stuff I dont need. Which of course is not ideal. But I still do it at times if things are rough.
