A post this morning about my week and my kids’ back-to-school. Also, want to examine September and whether we have enough systems in place to warranty thriving or just surviving.

Because this past week was largely about surviving. At least for me.

Mandatory first day picture: 2 grade and kindergarten

My kids went back to school on Thursday! T and I attended the drop off because, you know, first day of school. I lucked out since I didn’t have a morning class so I didn’t have to take time off. I made it just in time for my second class.

There were no tears, both reported having a good day, and came back home tired but smiling. R already had a little paper in his backpack-I assumed homework, an “about me” project. So we sat down and did it together.

Right before we walked in

My work week was overwhelming. I am in two different rooms, with three classes in one and two classes in another. I felt entirely out of wack, running around in between the two rooms, making copies, forgetting this and that. Ugh.

I am a seasoned educator so I know what I’m doing and I have enough experience to make it work regardless but this past week I felt very scattered.

I need to get a grip. I think I may work from home for an hour or so this weekend to get myself together. There some things I can do digitally.

The house is in disarray- again. The kids were home for two days before they went to school and T was working from home with meetings and phone calls. So the kids were watching tv and disassembling the house.

This weekend I want to:

Tidy up

Vacuum (definitely)

Mop (maybe)

Lesson plans for September

Laundry

Rest (don’t know what that means… nap, read?)

September will look like this:

Me– working full time

My husband– working full time

Kids– school full time, they are also both in aftercare with YMCA

Activities:

Piano for L, one hour a week on Wednesdays, plus daily practice

Gymnastics for both on Saturday mornings

Brazilian jiu jitsu for R, 2-3 times a week, after school.

T will also be traveling for business some weeks so I will be solo parenting.

No wonder I am feeling overwhelmed. Ha.

Lastly, a before and after of our new kitchen:

I am so glad we did the kitchen during the summer. Plus I was away for most of the process 😉 which was also better since neither I or kids were under food while the contractors were here.
Happy back to school to Ethan and Asher!!

Daria, just chalk it up to first week jitters. Next week I know you will prevail and do just fine.

I love the kitchen transformation. So clean and modern looking.

The new kitchen looks amazing! It’s so bright and sunny in there! I am glad you did this during the summer!

We had a great first week back. Paul started Tues, Will Thur. I wish it was the opposite as having Will home with me was rough! They had great first days though. Will is excited to be at school with his brother.

Switching rooms sounds so annoying! And I know you had printer issues before school started so you probably feel behind. I hope you can get to feeling more caught up!

OMG your kitchen looks fantastic, Daria! What a difference! I have lived through not one but two kitchen renovations and IT IS VERY TRYING. You were so smart to travel through the worst of it!

It sounds like you are so busy getting back into things – I hope everything settles into a nice routine for you soon.

first week back to work/school does feel overwhelming, but it will get better once you set the system in. So fun that R is learning about Brazilian Jijitsu, it’s a great sport for boys.

You know, he doesn’t necessarily love it, BUT it’s great for his self-discipline because they work with mental health and self-control.

The new kitchen looks so nice!!! Love the light colors for the countertops and cabinets and love the wall color! And wow, the backsplash – did you say you guys were doing that yourselves? Your kitchen looks so inviting!

I hope you had a laid-back weekend and had a chance to rest!

Your sense of style (both in terms of clothes/hair and home decor) is INCREDIBLE. I have been looking forward to this reveal and it exceeded my expectations.

My kitchen is very dated and it’s likely going to stay that way for a very long time because I just cannot bear the thought of more renovations, but if I could wave a magic wand and transform what I have, I’d opt for something just like yours!

I hope this week feels a bit less chaotic and stressful ❤
