Still not finished! And will never be finished!… With all the pebbles.

This was a good, productive weekend. Productive in a sense that I had energy to get stuff done but I did it in a slow, pleasant way. And, of course, laundry is still here. And still not folded.

I will tackle it tomorrow. At the moment it is a true mountain of clean stuff, just waiting to be put away.

But here is what I DID do:

I bleached my three white tops that I washed TOGETHER with *new* jeans. You know exactly what happened. The three white tops became – tie-dye blue-grey tops. I hate to admit this but I almost threw them out. Then kind folks on the internets said to try OxiClean. Nope. Next, try bleach. Worked!!

I did my angry runs. My daughter goes “mom, what’s an angry run?” I explain: “when I feel angry, I go on our treadmill. Makes me feel better.” It’s true.

Read my book by C. Pelletier, almost done! It’s called “The One-Way Bridge” and is set in Maine.

I gardened! Fertilized, weeded, and trimmed all of our roses.

Replaced the basement window covers

See the gap? Supposedly, R was playing and fell through

Had a few play dates at our house (neighbors’ kids)

Went to the beach on Friday

Just the two of us… plus a seagull

Socialized at neighbor’s party. It was her best friend’s son’s birthday but we were invited anyway. It’s a house next door with many neighbors gathering there often.

Folded all my sweaters. I have 13 sweaters ranging from very thin to very thick, to be worn in deep freeze. Not pictured: the pink cat sweater.

On the far right- those are furry pajamas

T has been in the kitchen: sanding, painting and upgrading the outlets all weekend long. We are so close!

I then placed objects back into the new cabinets – as logically as possible. Pasta forks, soup ladles, tongs, spatulas- next to the oven and not on the other side of the kitchen as I initially placed them.

Enjoyed decluttering items that are no longer relevant (i.e. plastic bag holder- NJ no longer gives plastic bags at supermarkets).

Work in progress

Sampled paint colors for the dining room:

On the right is our choice

Went to a diner on Sunday morning!

A note about today, Monday. The kids and I are alone since T is traveling or two days so today was a very chill, wonderful day. I’m writing about it because it want to remember it. Soon, I will be in a whirlpool of activity with work, and kids’ school, and kids’ activities and ripping my hair out. Not sure when I would get another day like today…

We had a very slow morning, I had coffee, they hung out with me. We then had a leisurely breakfast. Played outside while I watched the sky. Then they watched cartoons while I ironed some dresses and hung them up. More stuff into the new kitchen. Trampoline in the yard. Lunch outside, sandwiches and steamed broccoli. Went out for boba tea! Came back, worksheets for both while I sat with them. R goes “number three looks like boobs if you look from the side.” He is not wrong. A friend popped in to play. Jiu jitsu class for R, then a playground. Pork chops for dinner, clean up, showers, bed.

Your day sounds so lovely and quiet. I’m wondering when I was a kid, if someone asked what my perfect day would look like…would it be a full day of action and adventure, maybe at the beach or an amusement park? Or a calm day at home. Probably would not include ironing.

I’m focused on your drawer of batteries, wondering if I can manage something like that.

I approve of your color choice.

Julie!!!! I’ll share a picture of the battery drawer when the kitchen is done. I am really trying to use that prime real estate in the kitchen drawers for things that are absolutely essential. We had stuff for the pool in there… Why? That stuff can go into the basement or somewhere else. The junk drawer is no longer a junk drawer but rather, a “fix it” drawer. Screw driver, a Swiss Army knife, hand cream, chapstick, etc. some more very small tools. I’m sure it will turn out a junk drawer as time progresses but for now- it’s neat.

I know it’s terrible for the environment, but I miss getting plastic bags. I hate having an unlined trash can in the bathroom, and that was mostly what I used plastic bags for. Of course, I don’t hate it enough to actually go out and *buy* trash can liners for the bathroom. I hoard plastic bags when I get them, and if I don’t have plastic bags, I’ll line with newspaper, but that is not a neat to empty.

It is amazing how much one can pack into a leisurely day! Not a bad thing, just and observsation that even when moving at a slower pace one can still fit in a lot in 24 hours.

I know what you mean.. I bought those bougie bags for trash… I couldn’t do it without. Now I fill the trash until I can’t squeeze any more, to make those last.

It totally is!! I saw these sweater “shelves” that I may get.. from evil amazon but I also need to put myself on a spending freeze.

I need to get more sweaters! I ordered one from Land’s End when I got a backpack for Will and it fits great. But I need way more as most of the ones I own are very thin/getting thread bare.

We need a pic of the kitchen when it is all finished!!

Is it something about the start of the school year, I’ve been on an organizing kick too, lately. Solid work on the sweater shelf, and I like the idea of a “fix-it” drawer!

Angry runs – haha! I know exactly what you mean. Running always makes me feel better!

Remodeling the kitchen also screams for reorganizing the kitchen, so that must have been very satisfying too!
