Typing this while R is in his BJJ lesson.

I’ve made it. Rough week but celebrating it because.. I survived. Maybe even thrived, a little.

From Saturday to today I was solo parenting, and working, and bringing R to jiu jitsu. My days were from about 5am till about 8pm. Two drop offs, two pick-ups. Two different schools.

Mornings, and evenings and afternoons. Misplaced folders. Tears. Piano. BJJ. Books read. Sweet wake ups. Terrible wake ups. Lox and bagel. Oatmeal. Sink full of dishes. Sink empty. Acupressure pad. Close eyes, five minutes later, it’s next morning.

I took almost no pictures so not much to show. But I worked hard. A record of “it’s _ o’clock” was constantly playing in my mind. Not wishing time away, just being hyperaware of what I need to do next.

We had NJ state testing at school. Plus regular teaching. Plus wrapping up the year. Realigning final assessments for both levels.

This long Memorial Day weekend (Friday to Tuesday) is very much welcome in my tired mind.

My own kids are in school for Friday and Tuesday so I get the house all to myself. Maybe I’ll do a “shouldless” day for one of them. Or both?..

For now, on tap for this weekend:

Friday: open+birthday party for R’s friend in the evening

Saturday: gymnastics and piano+open

Sunday: meeting up with Maya from pocobrat. She will be in my neck of the woods for a wedding. Afternoon- open.

Monday: Korean sauna with my daughter in the morning, afternoon- open

Tuesday: open+BJJ lesson for my son in the evening.

Specific things I want to do during these five days. Read, yoga, blog write, blog read, nap, spend time with T, watch “the Perfect Couple”. Spend time outside. Garden?.. Clean out guest room closet?.. Tidy the house. Get my head on straight.

How is/was your week? What is on your dance card this weekend?

Hooray for making it through a rough week! And now you get to celebrate and relax! It sounds like you have some nice things planned. I don’t have any plans except to do some yard work and spring cleaning.

Whew! Yay for making it to your long weekend. I get that feeling of being hyper-aware of time – it’s like knowing what the next thing is that has to happen, and when it has to happen, and you just have to get to that next thing. I’ll be so interested to hear what you do with your two kid free days (or daytime, I guess, since you still have to do mornings and evenings with them?) I always like to have meandering relaxed days when I have lots of empty time, but then I know I’ll feel better if I do some kind of project (like cleaning or decluttering or DIY) as well. It’s a balance.

I have to work on Saturday, but then Sunday is wide open since most of our kid activities are taking the Sunday off. I would like to go hiking after church if the kids are up for it; my father is in town and he really love hiking, and I haven’t really been hiking yet this year. (how did I get to the end of May without hiking this year???)

Have a wonderful extra long weekend. You should definitely do a shouldless day. You earned it after all of the solo parenting!!

Will didn’t have daycare today due to teacher development. So he got lots of screen time while we worked. I logged off around 2 to give him some attention.
