Saturday. I made a list of what I needed to do and got to *most* things. I really wanted to tidy the house, dust and vacuum. Tidy because after a whole week of working, and school, and activities, and going in and out of the house, it is messy. Dusting because we are in a season of *everything flowering* and I love to open windows, and, of course, then there is a layer of tree pollen on the furniture. And vacuum because we bring stuff on our shoes (in spit of taking the shoes off in the house) – mulch and such still make it into the house.

I then decided to organize my dresser and closet. Took everything out, got rid of the separators (just old shoe containers), removed the heavy winter stuff to a different closet and put everything back. I wasn’t sweating the KonMari folding technique but tried to fold stuff in a “good enough” style.

We then had L’s piano lesson and R’s friend birthday party. His friend B, his “brother” as R calls him, is our neighbor, a sweet kid, and a great friend to R.

We left rather early since I needed to rest, walked over to our house next door, took showers (that bouncy castle at the party was serious business), and huddled in. After a few books, the kids were out at around 7:30. Me- I stayed up till about 9pm.

Sunday. I am happy to report that since that one night of awful sleep last week, I am doing better. On Saturday night I slept like a baby yet R woke me up at 5:30. He went downstairs and kind of just lied on the couch in the den so I figured I’d get up and have coffee downstairs with him.

Sitting in the den with my son, having coffee, not having to get ready and go to work because it was Sunday: such a delight. It was super early, the light was just so slight, borderline grey, and it was so quiet. At one point, R wrapped himself in a blanket and lied on his back in such a way that he looked like baby R. Kids grow, their faces and bodies change but that morning I saw a glimpse of R as a baby in his face.

R was a moon face when he was a baby

After L was up, we had breakfast of butchered pancakes and set out for Aldi. After Aldi, we went to Greta’s 5K and Memory Walk to honor the memory of our dear friend who passed in May of 2023 from cancer at the age of 49. The walk was only one mile and there were lawn signs with the names of the departed and the year they passed. We saw G’s sign, and took pictures, and missed him. His wife, his two kids, his mom and younger brother walked, too.

After the walk, we had lunch at the house and took a short ride to get Boba tea. Both my kids and I love that stuff. I especially like the one that has coffee in it plus boba beads. The kids get yoghurt- based boba. YUM.

The beads matches R’s shirt

After boba it was non-negotiable quiet time. R and me napped in our respective beds, L read in her room. After the nap, we bummed around the house and yard, did trampoline, played. Then my friend K came by for dinner- with her baby. I had a steak which was kind of big so I invited her to have dinner. K is super low key so I wasn’t worried. I fried up a steak, some potatoes and made a Russian salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, scallions, sour cream, and, of course, dill).

Bed time was a breeze since the kids were both tired.

Wrapping up this post in bed, feeling grateful for a nice weekend, time with the kids, time with friends, and time with myself.

You totally had me at Boba. My 13 year old and I have this plan to try all the boba places nearby this summer, and find our favorite.

What a great weekend – you hit all the things I like to have in a weekend – satisfying chores, fun, social interaction, downtime, and tasty food.
