1. Power outages. I am typing this at my school since I am not able to do anything – the school lost power about an hour ago. Sheltering in place. No lights, no WiFi, no copiers. Walking in the dark hallways and escorting students to bathrooms. *update- early dismissal. Everyone is going home.

During the power outage on Wednesday night

This week in New a Jersey we have had such tremendous wind gusts that we lost power at the house on Wednesday night. Took showers in candle light and used camping lanterns.

2. Got his post card from California ❤️

Thank you to Julie for this lovely card! Tucked it into my journal ❤️

3. Stopped by the library with my big little boy to read some books.

4. Cold. I got “concrud” on Wednesday and Thursday. I attended a conference last week, and sure enough, got a cold on Wednesday and Thursday. Body aches and soar throat. Today I am at work, in a mask, but still feeling a bit weak.

5. Reading. Orhan Pamuk’s “A Strangeness in My Mind” is sooo good. It’s about a life of a yoghurt and boza seller in Istanbul. I’ve never had an interest to visit Turkey but now I do. In fact, maybe a month trip- two weeks in Greece and two weeks in Turkey?..

Bonus:

I’d like to share this link from the Lit Hub. Nicole Graev Lipson writes about motherhood loneliness and sacrifice. The essay made me feel seen. She has a whole book of essays that I want to get.

This weekend…

Tonight is Kodo in Morristown! Going alone since T has the kids. Will go out to dinner with them before then zoom over to Morristown.

Saturday is typical… My last yoga class, gymnastics, skates, piano. Cleaning the house since it’s looking kind of cruddy. Putting away laundry.

On Sunday, I had grand plans to go to NYC with the kids, to visit Morgan Library and Museum. But I still feel like I am recovering so will probably scrap that.

Speaking of laundry… and dishes…

Happy weekend!

What’s going on in your world? How was your week?

Ugh. Concrud is the worst. I hope you feel better soon. I love that article you linked to. Thanks for sharing. I hope the weather calms down and there are no more power outages and that it’s smoother sailing all around the rest of March.

I’m sorry to hear you came down with a cold this week after your conference! I’m surprised I don’t get sick more often with how often I’m traveling. But something really leveled me this week. I hadn’t heard of that book of essays about motherhood so thanks for sharing it. I plan to read it!

    I’m sorry you weren’t feeling good. 😔

That book recommendation (Mothers and Other Fictional Characters) went right to my TBR list. Thank you for that.

And that fucking dishes and laundry made me laugh so hard.

Blah, I’m sorry you have been sick, I hope you’re feeling better now!

I’ve read one or two books by Pamuk, though not that one. I remember really liking ‘My Name is Red’.

Funny about Sisyphus pushing the rock up the hill…just the other day I had the random thought, ‘Sisyphus is still pushing that damned rock up the hill, and Prometheus is still having his liver eaten out by an eagle every day!’ ACK!

Fucking dishes, fucking laundry, fucking cooking. SO MUCH OF LIFE!

Oh and I’d like to add “mopping” to it, too.

    I hope you’re all better now/soon…

And also, GO TO GREECE! GO TO TURKEY!!

I know you’re thinking about it on some deep level because look at how your illustration for laundry and dishes is from Greek mythology :)!

Haha! You are so observant, Maya! I put that idea on my travel list. I may do Dolomites first, then the year after Greece and Turkey. Greece does not seem that expensive… just getting there I guess?..

sorry to hear you’ve been sick and lost power last week too. That was a risk for us because a cyclone was heading our way late last week! Been a very anxious few days. Luckily ur missed us but now we are getting heavy rains and flash flooding. But grateful we missed the worst of it (other parts of our region have been much worse affected- including loser power for multiple days- no coffee for days? I can’t even imagine!) hope you’re all better now and had a nice weekend.

Thank you, Sophie! I am glad you missed the worst of Alfred. I’ve been thinking about you as I read the news. No, I cannot imagine not having coffee for days. 😬

I have never heard of “concrud” before — although I have definitely contracted it. Yuck. I hope you are feeling better!

Yes. Laundry and dishes. That meme is so relatable. I would add “cooking dinner” to it also.

Yes. Cooking, mopping, vacuuming. Weeding. Making lunch to bring to work. Does. Not. Stop.
