Today was a hard day. A regroup is needed for me. This past weekend and this week I am sliding off the wagon of my morning routine, feeling exhausted, stretched thin and having very little margin to my days.

Let’s unpack.

The weekend was kind of busy. On Saturday the kids had gymnastics for both, piano for L. I had yoga in the morning. I don’t even know what else we did for the rest of Saturday… looking through pictures yields this photo:

A new garland for Valentine’s Day – from Etsy

Sunday I saw my sister friends at a cafe, here is my drink- a pink chai.

This week feels packed…

Work. Pick ups from schools. Jiu jitsu. Dinner. Clean up. Washing out lunch containers. Making lunches for me and L.

In addition to the above…

Monday and Wednesday – physical therapy right after work. Wednesday- yoga. Thursday T and I are going into the city to see Redwood the musical, and will come back very late. Friday I KNOW I will be fried but, thankfully, no students at my school on Friday, just colleagues for professional development.

All this feels like a lot. Because it is a lot. I missed yoga yesterday because I just wanted to veg out and spend some time with T (we started Shōgun), but then I felt down that I didn’t go to my usual Monday class. I then read my book for a bit after the show. So bed time procrastination. This morning I was so tired so I slept in. The result- no morning routine.

But, something’s gotta give.

Tonight I am going to bed early so I can reset my system…

Tomorrow and Thursday I have three classes per day so my teaching load is lighter for the rest of the week.

How is your week going?

The older I get the more resentful I feel about needing sleep. Like there is so much that I want to do – books to read, blog posts to write, craft/painting, shows to watch, house projects. And I *think* I can do it all and sleep less because that’s what I did in my twenties. But you know what? I can’t do that anymore. Not sleeping really sinks my day. And that’s so annoying to me.
I’m really excited for you New York adventure. I’m sure intrigued to hear about Redwood!

Some weeks are like that, just so jam packed, it’s easy to get worn down. It sounds like you are doing the right things though, resting so you can get back on track when you can. Have a great time at the show! I’ve never heard of it.

Thank you Julie! We invested in the show and the producer got us tickets. It’s about this business woman that gets lost in Redwood forest and somehow “finds” herself, a self-discovery of sorts. The main singer is Idina Menzel, the singer that sang “let it go” from Frozen.

I struggle with this, too! Things get so busy that I slack a bit to rest but then that slacking makes me feel worse than getting up and exercising, etc, would have. But! When the situation happens again, I make the SAME CHOICE. Solidarity.

Thank you, Sarah, I went to bed early (7:30) and today we had delayed opening at school so I could take my time to get ready. I still did not sleep in because the snow plows were screeching at 4AM clearing the snow.

Like you said, it feels hard because it is hard. It feels like some days – granted my days are now a lot less intense than yours! – are like 3-days worth of activity that needs to get crammed into a single day.

I’m glad you were able to get to bed extra early yesterday and hope you continue to be able to prioritize the rest you need. Thinking of you friend ❤

I’ve never heard of pink chai! That sounds lovely.

I went to bed at 9 last night. Winter is definitely wintering. Sending you a hug. ❤️

This week is kind of sucked for me too. I felt really tired and kind of dizzy on Sunday so I spent a good 3 to 4 hours laying down when I wasn’t the primary parent. I felt OK on Monday so I left on my work trip, but then it was apparent that I had a sinus infection. I’ve had so many so I know what symptoms to watch for. Luckily, I was able to snag a CVS MinuteClinic virtual appointment yesterday afternoon and I got on some antibiotics. I felt a bit better today but still not 100% but I had a jampacked day with six in person meetings. My saving grace has been that my days have not started early so I’ve been able to sleep later than usual. That means I can stay on central standard time which really helps.

Enjoy your night with T tomorrow night in the city!

Phooey I just commented and it got eaten, but the short of it was…don’t beat yourself up; sometimes we just need to rest and regroup. I hope that your day gets better today!

Hi Daria! I’m a few days late seeing this post, but I hope you’re feeling better. The pink chai is so pretty, and I love your Valentine’s garland. Tomorrow is Friday, and you said it’s professional development, so I hope it’s a good day for you!

Here’s hoping the week improved and if it didn’t that the weekend will give you a soft space to reset.

Solo parenting young kids is tough, teaching is tough, winter is tough, being an immigrant is tough, USA 2025 is tough.

But you have made a lovely life and are smart, beautiful, and kind… you are precisely the force that can beam its way through all the toughness.
