Happy weekend everyone. Thanks to Elisabeth for the FIGs initiative!

These are my FIGS 🟣 for this past week.

  1. Chiropractic care. I am finally taking care of my lower skull pain that comes in around my cycle. Turns out, I have to come twice a week but I have waited long enough. Time to get this taken care of.
  2. Yoga classes! Three times, Monday night, a sound bath and yoga, a Wednesday night flow, and a Saturday morning flow.
  3. An excursion to Costco with a good friend on Wednesday afternoon after work. Although I have lived in the US for 20+ years, I have never been to Costco. Or BJ’s. Or Sam’s Club. On Wednesday afternoon I accompanied my friend to Costco. It was an interesting experience but I will not be joining their membership. Too overwhelming for my taste.
  4. Reading. I finished A Manual for Cleaning Women by Lucia Berlin. A total of four hundred plus amazing pages with themes of relationships, terminal illness, family, addiction, moving houses, and changing jobs. Then I started Wanted: Toddler’s Personal Assistant by Stephanie Kiser. Author spent time nannying for NYC’s 1%; themes of class and privilege.
  5. Thursday was a snow day for me but a delayed opening for my kids. That means that I had *almost* a whole day to myself :))
  6. Baba Ganoush. I love eggplant and, for a while now, I wanted to make a baba ganoush recipe. It was delicious and SO easy! In essence, baba ganoush is a middle eastern dish (a dip) that is similar to hummus except it is made with eggplant and not chickpeas. I used one small eggplant so my yield was not a lot but still it was so good. Nice, smoky flavor, eaten with pita bread, and cut up sweet peppers, cucumbers, and celery.
  7. Chore and behavior chart for kids created by T is working quite well! On it, we have daily tasks like: tidy rooms, no whining, no attitude, piano practice (for L), word practice (for R), among others.
  8. Spring road trip finalized! NJ to VA, VA to NC, NC to PA, PA to NJ!

🍋 lemons 🍋

This week was not without lemons.

  1. Chiropractor care. Great but it’s adding to the overwhelm. Just pile it on top my yoga classes, school pick-ups, work and regular life.
  2. Costco experience was very overwhelming and required some processing on my part. I was happy to leave and pick up R at his preschool. I see why people like it but I do not see myself shopping there.
  3. An overall sense of fatigue that I am not able to shake. In spite of the fact that I go to bed at a very reasonable time. Feeling like my tank is empty and days have very little margin.
  4. Falling off the wagon with habits. Especially weights. I have not done any weights since February started. Need to reground and reassess the daily habits.
A beautiful moon this Tuesday

It’s funny – when I first designed the F.I.G. printable one side had a FIG and the other side had a lemon because, obviously, life has LOTS of lemons.

I’m so glad you have a great yoga routine. I have not been to the yoga studio in MONTHS. I have classes pre-purchased which will eventually expire. Part of me has been dragging my feet because it’s so darn cold. Other parts of me have said I don’t need to go because I’ve been doing weights and cardio at the gym. But I really do want to go, at least until all my class credits are used up!

I agree that Costco is soooo overwhelming. We had a membership for a few years but then let it lapse but I didn’t enjoy going (and felt like some products weren’t much cheaper AND I ended buying lots of impulse things…in bulk.

If I chose to write down my “lemons” the list would be very long right now… so I focus on the FIGs 😉 and I love that you had some good ones this week. They can really help when everything is overwhelming.

I love Baba Ganoush but wow, I did not enjoy Manual For Cleaning Woman. What an upsetting book. I found it so terribly grim and sad.

We’re at outliers and not having a Costco membership. My mother-in-law has one so she will get things for us if we need them. There isn’t a Costco that’s conveniently located and we are all about convenience right now!

I’ll be in your state again this week so we’ll be metaphorically waving at you. I have evening commitments both nights so I won’t be able to see you on this trip but hopefully on a future trip we can meet up! It looks like it’s going to be a snowy week, though, which makes packing really challenging as I usually wear Rothy’s with my work dresses . But they are not great for snowy or rainy weather!

We have a Costco membership, but we’ve been on the fence about renewing it. We don’t use it nearly as much as we used to, and it’s hard to justify spending $65 on the membership.

    Yay for FIGs!!!

Oh my gosh, I love Costco. It’s a family thing. Back when my parents lived in Washington state and we went to visit – if we ever went to Costco in Tacoma, I ran into half my extended family there 🙂

Nowadays, we go about once every 2 months (at most). I sort of have “tunnel vision” when I get there – there are specific things that I like to get and I rarely get anything else.

What we like at Costco: dry fruit, meat/fish, smoked salmon, cheese, olive oil for baking/cooking, coffee, garbage bags, paper napkins and paper towels, TP, bread flour. We were there 2 days ago and got strawberries – I don’t know if they were any cheaper than what we would get at a regular grocery stores, but omg, so good!!! I don’t go there so much because it saves money… there are just some things that I really like. Walnut cranberry bread – not always there, but if available, especially when just baked and still warm – mmm. If we know we’ll have company for breakfast – a giant pack of croissants really helps. Also, chicken thighs and cubed beef – always seems like better quality than what I find at a supermarket.

I’m really enjoying reading all of these gratitude posts. Even though I’m not taking part in this blog challenge, I’m definitely reaping the benefits.

I love that you go to a yoga class every week! I made a promise to myself that I’d start doing that in 2024… and, well, I still haven’t. 😆 I practice at home twice a day, but I haven’t yet found a studio that feels right for me.

I totally get overwhelmed at Costco too, which is why I rarely go. Thankfully, my husband has no problem with crowds, so he takes one for the team! Definitely something to be grateful for. If I do go, I make sure to go first thing in the morning on a weekday—it’s usually a much better experience that way.

I appreciate your FIGs, and positivity – so needed these days :). I may have to join myself.

Good for you on your yoga practice! I need to look at that myself, my combat and dance classes are getting tough on my aging joints.

Yay for baba ganoush – I am the only one who likes eggplant in the house, otherwise I would make it more. The commercial version are rather rich for my liking.

We have about a handful of Costco’s within a half hour drive from me, which is helpful and not. We don’t go there as much as we used to (now that it’s mostly just the 2 of us) … but I can’t say it isn’t helpful to pick up a quick dinner every so often. They are usually packed though – which is a deterrent in a good way I suppose. Saves me some money not going there so often 😉

Love reading your figs, chiropractor really helped with my lower back issue with consistent twice visit for 3-4 months. the key to avoid reserving is to keep good posture.

I’ve yet to make baba ganoush, do you follow a recipe?

I was on that twice-a-week schedule for a chiropractor last year. (Actually, I think I started with THREE times a week, which is crazy.) I can imagine that’s really hard to fit into your already packed schedule!

I just started taking a Hatha yoga class that feels SOOO good on my body! Definitely a highlight.

You’re going to Chincoteague??? SO EXCITING! I loved Misty of Chincoteague when I was a kid, would love to see those beautiful wild horses.

My BFF lives really close to Kennett Square, in Chadds Ford.

Costco…it used to really overwhelm me, but I’m more used to it now. I like to buy olive oil and Parmesan cheese there, as well as generic allergy meds. Mostly you just have to get in the zone mentally.

Yes! I cannot wait to see that area. I have 20+ years in the US but I have never seen the majority of the states… Let’s see, tri state area, doesn’t really count, Maine, Florida, Pennsylvania, and California *once* (SF to LA road trip)… I want to get to know my country better.
