L was up at five! She looked at the hotel clock and went: “mom, it’s 5am that means we have to wake up.” From the mouth of babes…

I had a cup of coffee in the room and watched the news while L had her left-over orange juice from yesterday and styled her giant Barbie head.

We then came down to breakfast at the hotel. A very generous spread, with sausage, eggs, pasties, and waffles. Coffee and yoghurts. Plus other stuff.

At breakfast there was a family from Western Massachusetts with similar ages kids, so L and their girl Emma played for a bit. I honestly like chatting with people, and that family was really down to earth.

After breakfast it was still early and L and I slowly walked to the Rockefeller center. Because it was so early, the streets were quiet. I snapped so many nice pictures of holiday lights.

I have heard absolute horror stories about how busy the Rockefeller center is during the holidays. But we’re were there on a Monday morning, before 8AM and it was glorious. There were some people but nothing like what I have seen on the Internets. We roamed around, took photos… Went down to the lower level area of the Rockefeller center and got a little lost- it’s almost like a system of tunnels. All wood paneling and old. I liked it.

Before checking out of the hotel, we stopped by a bakery that turned out to be a French bakery. Holy sugar, but whatever, we can detox tomorrow 😘

The bakery was decorated with Christmas garlands and teddy bears. We had coffee, and three pastries: a waffle with vanilla layer, and two soufflés or merengues, not sure. Plus selfies with the teddies 🙂

We were back home at around noon! This was a great trip; we lucked out with the weather (high 50s and dry), and early hours (no crowds). Both my daughter and I ate wayyy too much sugar but can limit sugar for the next few days.

This post is part of my personal writing challenge to document our winter break this year.

love the picture of your trip! Love seeing this time you and your daughter shared. Thank you for letting us in on your adventure! Also, I totally had one of this giant Barbie heads and I hadn’t thought of it in decades. Thank you so much the reminder. It was one of my favorite toys. I brushed it to death.

Another fun day!! The tree is so beautiful! I was there in 2013 visiting a friend that lives on the UWS. It was heavily snowing so I think that kept some of the crowds away but it was still quite crowded. And then we saw someone get proposed to in front of the tree which was sweet but holy not private! I was hoping to see the tree when I popped into NYC during my NJ work trip but I didn’t have the time. Hopefully next year I can see it!

This looks so fun. One of my life goals is to make it to NYC over the holidays some year. I really want to see all the store displays and lights. It really sounds like a magical place to be over Christmas.

Oh, how special it must have been to see Rockefeller Center all dressed up for Christmas! And to do it when it wasn’t too crowded. Smart thinking!
