We are staying on a farm in Lancaster Co., PA. The description said “kids will have morning chores.” Me: “we’ll be there, not a minute late!”

The chores are VERY hands on. L milked a cow:

Not just a demonstration, the real deal

Both kids fed the chickens and gathered eggs:

Then the kids gave the pigmy goats their minerals

Look at that face

And mixed pig food.

R said he does not want to milk the Mumkin (cow’s name)
R is a cat person like me ❤️

After the morning chores, we had breakfast on the farm, along with the hosts and other families. The hosts are sixth generation in this farm so there is a lot of history. I then wondered what it may be like to have such deep roots since I uprooted myself at 20 and moved across the ocean to an entirely different country.

After breakfast was a Strasburg railroad train ride. We actually passed the farm where we are staying! Recognized it from our window.

After the train ride, I felt like I needed a nap, so we went back to the farm, rested (rather, I rested, they watched cartoons). After, a long drive through the rolling hills, some covered bridges, some gorgeous views, and a local creamery with amazing and cheap ($5.30 for three ice creams!) Amish ice cream.

We finished the day at a local brewery called Bespoke Brewery. I tried a sampler of four different beers, the kids did Legos. Pulled pork sandwich and a hot dog with French fries. Thursday night was their slow night, just a few tables occupied, so it was perfect.

As I said on your last post, what rich opportunities you’re giving your kids!!! These are such amazing experiences. I want to go and help with these chores!!

When I was staying with my parents last week I helped my dad do a series of outdoor, physical tasks and it felt amazing. I spend so much of my life in front of a screen for both work AND leisure (blogging requires a computer!) so it felt refreshing to be outside, getting exercise without trying, and seeing things happen because of the effort of my own two hands!

That looks amazing! Those eggs! and milking the cow! Oh, I wish I had done this when our kids were younger 🙂 And also – you are practically in our neighborhood, we live about 60 miles east (Media, PA)!

Thank you for posting – this totally made my morning!

I want to go on your next vacation with you…I love ice cream, and breweries, and trains! It looks like a lot of fun. We had chickens growing up (and geese and ducks) and it was always fun to go and look for eggs; they were pretty good at getting out of the pen and finding sly hiding places to lay! I have not tried milking a cow, but have milked a goat and it was hard!

What a great experience for all of you! I love this so much! Guess what – I live on a ranch, and I’ve never milked a cow!!

What a wonderful day- great combination of farm chores for the kids, train, ice cream and brewery- sign me up. And looks like perfect weather too. Well done doing all this solo- not easy with two littlies, but you pull off the best trips 🙂

It looks like a lovely day, and I love how they involve the children in chores, it’s good for them to understand where our food comes from. I love riding the train and that looks like a fun time.

Wow! That is super cool! Are you off this whole week? I know you had Tuesday off for voting (I so wish we did), but I didn’t realize it was the whole week. So sweet! So do you go back next week and then have the week off for Thanksgiving? I can’t believe we’re already a week into November.
i love all the stuff you do with your kids. You’re like me. I always needed to have something to do with them. Sitting at home too much with them drove me crazy. I was always on the go. You do a lot with your kids too. 😉

We were open on Monday and Wednesday, so went to PA right after dismissal on Wednesday. A hard day but next morning, we could just start exploring.

What an amazing adventure. How did the kids like their chores? I bet the atmosphere on the farm must be amazing. So much history and such a deep bond to the life they live.

The train ride sounds fun and the picture of you is a gem you look so happy and relaxed.

I pay that for ice cream when I have one by myself. Amazing. Did taste good?

Enjoy your adventure and feel free to share more.

What fun. Chores can be fun when you’re that age. When I tried milking a cow I couldn’t believe how difficult it was to fill a bucket. Did yuo have the farm eggs and dairy for breakfast?
