We put R on skates today! I’ve been wanting to do it for a while since I am Russian and, you know, national pride and all… Kidding. Sort of.

He joined a group class, and today was the first lesson. It was R in a group of 4 and 5 year olds. Lots of falling, lots of crawling on ice, some tears and boo-boos.

Skating presented a good life lesson: you fall down, you get up. We will continue going because: 1. We paid for lessons till the end of December, and 2. At the end R stated that he wants to continue in spite of the fact that he fell down “one hundred times.”

I’m happy for him since he is my cautious child that does not like to be uncomfortable. So trying this new thing is very good for him.

Rented skates
Crawling, then walking, then skating?..
At the end he stood up and started moving
After skating, we had lunch and shared an ice cream at Friendly’s

NaBloPoMo 2024 is here, and this post is part of it. Join me and other awesome bloggers in this challenge!

How fun! It’s good to learn how to skate when you’re a child and closer to the ground! Once he gets the hang of it, he’ll be so happy! The ice cream looks amazing!

So fun. I LOVED skating as a kid. We used to go as a family every Saturday in the winter (to a rink). But our neighbours had a pond that would freeze over as well. That was my favourite! Now I rarely skate, but when I do it tends to be outside which means bumpy ice but it has its own magic.

Skating is so so much fun. Sliding shoes where the first big Christmas present I remember and then a couple year later we graduated to skates. I have the fondest memories on skates. Unfortunately winters are no longer cold enough that the lakes freeze over.

R looks so happy after sitting infant of that scream. I believe he is also proud trying something new. Any washing you lots of fun having him learn it.

No I think I want one of our winter date days be skating adventure.

He’ll probably learn fast- kids are good at that. I agree it’s a great life lesson- you fall down, you get back up and try again.

    Glad you’re doing NaBloPoMo!

I never learned to skate. I remember trying it once as a young teenager and falling down constantly and how badly my ankles hurt. LOL. I think it’s a wonderful thing to learn and I’m sure he’ll love it once he gets the hang of it.

I learned to skate as a kid. I think every kid should do it at least once 🙂 It’s a great experience.

Yay skating! I think skating is a great activity. My kids to it all year round. It’s especially nice in the summer when it’s 80 degrees outside to go sit in a 50 degree ice arena :).

It looks like R is doing great!

I’m glad R wants to continue even after crawling on the ice. This is giving me motivation to look into skating lessons for my kids. We have an outdoor rink here in the winter.
