This week has been a grinder, so glad it’s Friday. Interestingly, nothing bad happened but I am BEAT.
On Tuesday I met my students for the first time and had to teach ALL of my classes. Our high school is on a rotation schedule so I usually teach three classes on one day, four classes on another. But Tuesday was all five classes plus a study hall class. Add to that the necessity to remember everyone’s name and a whole bunch of new [very friendly]faces. Oh, the mental load of the first day of school is immense. I went to bed at 7:30 on Tuesday.

Wednesday was an easier day, our rotation schedule kicked in, so I only taught three classes. The school gives us a list of what to do the first week of school so I was plugging away at that. Did my SGO. Started them on a project. Switched their seats so I can learn their names faster. It was a busy day but with pockets of quiet downtime. After school we walked to our local playground, and I sat and read the Measure while the kids played.
In the evening I did a virtual yoga class! I still felt tired but forced myself to do it, and felt better afterwards.

Thursday was the first day of school for MY kids. Oh gosh. They wanted to do the “1st day back” posters so our morning was hectic.

I took the morning off so we could drop off L at first grade and R at his preschool. Both drop offs were underwhelming… You say goodbye at the entrance door of the school and that’s it. Neither R and L cried since I think they are used to going to school and camp. Lunches are provided by their respective schools (L buys lunch, R- free). So at least we don’t have to pack lunches. Before and after care started for one kid but not the other. L didn’t know where to go after school so she just sat in the main office until the school figured out that she is in aftercare. Shouldn’t they have a list??

After school I raced home to pick R up and to bring him to jiu jitsu. We decided to continue with one class a week. It’s more pressure on me, especially when T is traveling but I feel that jiu jitsu good for R. We met a Russian-speaking family at BJJ, and their son Nikita made friends with R. Now we need to do a play date!
There was some push back about bed time from our newly minted first grader but once her head hit the pillow, she was out. I mean, first day of school is hard for little people.
No yoga in the evening, read some of my book and lights out. Whew.
Finally, today, Friday. I am sitting in my class feeling overwhelmed. So many things to do (at work and at home). I am not sure where to even start…
This weekend the kids have gymnastics, and I have yoga two times. T is recording on Sunday, and I have Soulful Sunday workshop at the yoga studio. We need to catch up on putting away laundry, get groceries, make some kind of a meal plan, pick up the house. Maybe not clean the house but just pick up stuff currently lying around: toys, blankets, pillows, books… Some random object that really should be in the bathroom but it’s in the hallway?.. T is traveling next week so it’ll be me and the kids! Which means that preparation is even more important.
Have a nice weekend! Tell me how your week was and what you have on tap this weekend.
