This morning we took a train to Tropea – a town on the sea with amazing views, local architecture and places to eat. I initially wanted to stay in Tropea but it was SO expensive – think 2K for one week. Our accommodation, with a kitchenette, air conditioning, and a fabulous view was $1200 for one week. But, the downside is our accommodation is the fact that it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere and no paper towels.

To get to Tropea you take a taxi to the train station, then a quick 10 minute train ride to Tropea.

Tropea did not disappoint. Yes, it was touristy, but at the same time very pretty. The old buildings, the markets, the squares, the narrow streets, the shops. The old town is especially beautiful.

I bought some unique articles of clothing that I know I will wear with pleasure: a poppy dress, a flower skirt, a cross body leather bag, a pair of earrings and a ring. Yeah, I know. For someone who is cheap, that’s not typical. I don’t buy any souvenirs, I buy only what I will wear for a while or use up. For example, I still have my belt from Argentina from 2017. The dress and the skirt are perfect for work and play, so is the jewelry and the cross body bag will replace my fanny pack 😉 By the way, the cross body bag smells of leather quite strongly. It may be smelling up my whole carryon.

It took about two hours to get back. Slowly walking to the station, missing the train, waiting for an hour for the next one. First thing we did was get into the shower to rinse off. We were dirty and sticky from all the heat and being in train stations.

After being in the air conditioned space for a while, we went to the pool. Oh and I did some laundry.

Sink laundry

The bar of soap is what was labeled in the store as “laundry soap” and the smell is quite potent. The laundry smells just fine after washing. I know it’s not washing-machine quality of wash but for now, it serves its purpose. Once I put the clothes onto a drying rack outside, it is dry within a few hours because of the heat.

Yesterday we wrapped up the day with some pool time and dinner.

That looks like a beautiful little town! $1200 seems like a lot but I just got a place in Canmore and you could not find anything for less than $300 a night. Of course, we were five people so we needed a little more space.

I was in Italy in August and I remember getting really bad chafing in my groin from walking around in the heat!! I thought it maybe was humid too but you saying that your clothes dried makes me wonder if I’m misremembering.

Thank goodness your place has air conditioning! It must be so nice to be able to cool off after walking in the heat. Every photo is so charming.

Is there nothing better than a good rinse-off shower after being outside and surrounded by people all day? That’s the best thing!

I love that you bought some things for yourself that you’ll treasure and that will make you think fondly of the time you spent in Tropea!
