Today we slept in… To my horror, the kids woke T and I up at 9:45am! We bumbed around the apartment, the went out for a very salty breakfast. The omelette was salty, the bacon was salty, the tomatoes were salty. Everything was salty! I drank a gallon of water afterwards.

R was having a really hard time today. He was whiney, extremely sensitive, and was barely eating. I know he is still little, this jet lag is not helping, and it’s a lot to ask of him. It’s also very hot so he is struggling with that. At breakfast he was particularly difficult. He would not touch anything of what we offered him.

I got worried, and after we finished, we stopped by the local market and filled up on yoghurts, milk, and cereal. I know for sure he would eat those. Right next door, there was a fruit market, and we bought figs, pears, peaches, strawberries, and grapes. I know for sure that he eats fruit. After he filled up, I felt better. At this moment, we are picking our battles as long as he eats, whatever it is that is borderline healthy.

As the day progressed and we went to the beach in the afternoon, he got distracted and was playing in the water with no issues.

At dinner, he did try what we offered and ate some, but not all. Hey, I am happy with any amount that he eats.

In the afternoon, L and I attempted to walk to Ravello – a neighboring town. The walk is about 40 minutes but… it’s all stairs and it’s in the 90s. Essentially, you ascend 400 meters up the mountain. Whew. We actually turned around. It was very hot and I just felt bad for L. She asked to go back. We will go to Ravello on Saturday by local bus.

She is so done
That’s Minori, our base for this week

Tonight’s dinner was the best one yet. The restaurant was a small, farm-to-table style place, where the owner of the farm served us. Apparently, hazelnuts are the specialty on his farm so he incorporates them into every dish.

Last night’s meal was below average, food-wise, and tonight’s place was fabulous. So simple yet so tasty. I actually could have finished my pasta with porcini mushrooms but I stopped myself since I didn’t want to be too uncomfortable with my already bloated stomach.

The location of the place was off the beaten path, surrounded by houses, and an open space in the middle. That open space was perfect for the kids to play while we waited for the food to come out.

There is not alcohol in his drink. Orange juice and ginger, which he didn’t like
Excuse L’s face 🤣

Jet lag is hard for everyone, including kids. Hopefully he gets over with it and start enjoying the trip more. traveling with this heat is so hard.

Between jet lag and heat, you’re smart to take the public transportation.

Good call to turn back when it is so hot!! Steps plus heat is a hard combo! Especially for little legs. It sounds like things are going well all in all, though. Jet lag is so hard! I haven’t dealt with it in many years now. These little kids are so sensitive to schedules and routines so I can see why it has really thrown R off! Hopefully he adjusts soon and will be in better spirits for your solo time with the kids!

Heat and stairs don’t go together! I’m so glad you listened to your daughter and your body and turned around to go back. I love your photos and your honesty!

Ugh, stairs and 90s? No thank you – I am with L. 😉

The food and the restaurant settings look amazing though.

When we were in Rome it was 95 every day and sightseeing was very, very sweaty. I would have hated doing that with two younger kids in tow. So good that you are near the beach though and have that to keep the kids entertained. The food looks so fresh.

Aww, poor R! The jet lag and heat must be getting to him. I hope he starts feeling more like himself soon!

L’s face in the last photo cracks me up!
