Next week is going to be… AWESOME. I only work two days. Monday and Wednesday. On Tuesday schools are closed because of the Election Day.

Thursday and Friday is New Jersey Teacher Convention so all schools in the state (public and private) are closed. It’s a huge event, a three day conference, with tons of targeted professional development workshops, coffee klatches, networking, book talks, panels, and even concerts. It’s quite wonderful – I have participated many times over the course of my career. But this year… I have two kids in the school system whose schools are closed. So they are home on both days. T, of course, is working.

So I’m thinking…

On Tuesday it’s sunny and high of 66. Bundle up and a hike at the reservation?

On Thursday and Friday is 50% of rain and in the low 50s. A museum? Could we actually venture out to NYC? I actually went to NYC with L multiple times (The Met) and it was okay. She didn’t particularly care for Rubens or Ancient Greece but we generally had a good time. Maybe this time it could be both kids?…

Do you miss going to the conference? Sounds like. you really enjoyed it.

But an adventure day with the kids sounds also fun. Hope you find something great to do.

I am continually amazed with how much adventuring you do with your kids. Gold stars!!

Sounds like you will have a great week! I love a museum trip, but kids don’t always appreciate them as much as we do. Of course, if you start them young they may develop a love for it! My daughter loves museums.

is it common to get Election Day off from school? This is unheard of in Minnesota! We had our teachers convention in October but the after school program provides childcare on most non-school days. So it was supposed to be a normal week for us except that’s when both boys tested positive for strep and influenza 5 days apart.

I think if I was taking kids into NYC, I’d go to the museum of natural history which I have not been to but feel my kids would enjoy!

You’re my type of person- I do a lot of weather stalking and am frequently taking screenshots of the forecast. Your week ahead does sound awesome. A hike and museum trip with the kids would be so, so fun. I hope you enjoy it!

I miss the days when the kids spent time with me on their days off. Now they want to be with their friends, or we plan a college visit. I think your plan sounds perfect. That convention for teachers sounds like a wonderful time. Maybe you can get back in the swing of going to that when the kids are older. Enjoy!

Bummer that you’re missing out on the conference yourself, but doing something fun with your kids and having a short work weekend also sounds lovely 🙂

Ah, how neat to be able to just casually say, “Should we venture into NYC??” Haha. I hope you enjoy your short week no matter what you decide to do!!

Lucky you being able to pop over to NYC. I did visit the Met while I was there. Most of my time I spent in the Egyptian section but there was also a special exhibition of Buddhist art which was pretty interesting.
