May brought happiness and heartbreak. It wasn’t a busy month (since I am on a rampage to cut any meaninglessness out of my life).

In May we celebrated my 42 birthday. Enjoyed Mother’s day breakfast. Celebrated my fellow educators for Teacher Appreciation week. Made a new Russian (!) friend with similar age kids who lives two streets from our house. Took kids to the dentist for their 6 month check-up and cleaning. Interviewed and hired a house cleaner. Had five days off for Memorial Day. Bought and set up a pool in the back yard. Gardened my heart out and read 7 books. Had time and space to sit and think. Watched movies with T. Had conversations with T. Laughed my brains out… with T. Got a facial and went to a Korean sauna twice. Invested into a skin care “system” from Drunk Elephant. Cleaned out the garage-completely with a Bagster bulk pickup. We can now actually park our cars in the garage!

Grieved our friend passing.

Things to look forward to in June.

Work:

  1. Reflecting on this academic year
  2. Setting goals for September 2023
  3. Pride month district-wide!
  4. Final exams!
  5. My high school graduation!

Family:

  1. Our 11th wedding anniversary
  2. Our house anniversary (bought in 2014)
  3. A good friend’s 50th birthday
  4. Same friend: her kids’ graduation + turning 18 party!
  5. Father’s Day with T and the kids
  6. Summer Solstice at the house
  7. L’s bridging to kindergarten (tearing up)
  8. R’s last days at daycare (crying)
  9. Responded yes to two kids’ birthday parties. Both kids are good friends of L and R.

Self:

  1. Reading more fiction since my May reading was so heavy. Just checked out The Wonder of All Things by J. Mott.
  2. Continue the Golden Hour
  3. Visit Korean sauna twice
  4. Start going to the Jersey shore
  5. Continue gardening (an outlet for me)
  6. Do something, something – about my lack of exercise ad unwillingness to change.

Nice work with the garage! That is one of those projects that is easy to put off and it is so nice to have it done! I have organized mine several times and each time I whittle away more and more (like WHY did I keep those notebooks from high school? WHY?) I am actually going to my brother’s house this weekend to help him do the same! We don’t have Bagster, but our WM will do a bulky pickup and maybe it is time to do that, but I still have some electronics and things like that which I don’t want to just toss in the dumpster.

Thank you! The stuff in the garage was wayyy overdue! So much stuff that was a “just in case” case.
How wonderful you are helping your brother!

It doesn’t sound like May was a quiet month – sounds very productive!

You know how when you do a workout video, they always say that getting started is the hardest part? I’ve found that to be so true for myself. If I can push play and do the first three minutes, I can (usually) get through the rest. Good luck finding something that works for you!

I bet the garage cleaning project feels so good to have behind you! Things can really start to accumulate in garages. We noticed that when we were house hunting. A lot of people could not park in their garages as they were full of stuff! I love a good purge and do it kind of in spurts. I cleaned out my closet this spring and will consign that stuff later this month. now I am working on rebuilding my wardrobe.

Fitting workouts in is so challenging. I think I need to just do what I can even if that means a 15 minute core video. I get stuck in thinking I need to dedicate X minutes to a workout. But 10-20 is better than nothing. I’ve been focused on getting steps in, too, which is much easier now that the weather is nicer and we are often out with the kids after dinner!

Hi Lisa, what are you using to rebuild your wardrobe?
And yes, a weight has been lifted off my shoulders with this garage thing. I even parked my car there yesterday because, why not?… 🙂

My neighbor was getting rid of some clothes that she didn’t feel like consigning so I got some dresses and tops from her. So that’s my starting point and then I will gradually add things as I find them. I debated working with a wardrobe consultant but it’s so expensive and I don’t think I can stomach the cost!

I know! I wish i could but… I am also considering doing a “styling” service from Nordstrom- it’s free.

That garage is a DREAM! Look at all that space. I love a good organizing project.

I hope you’ll let us know how the Drunk Elephant system works. I’ve been curious about their products but they are so expensive that I haven’t been willing to try them just yet.

Haha thank you! The other day I parked my car in the garage out of a principal lol

Drunk Elephant. When I bought a “littles” set I was excited but was dying on the inside it was expensive. And I feel like it makes me breakout but I also love sweets and extra sugar is making me break out, too. So maybe I shouldn’t blame DE for that. I do have to say I am underwhelmed.
