Reentry. We got in last Saturday, around 3pm, barely made it till 6:30pm then everyone (except my husband) was passed out.

Ahhhhh (very)early morning coffee, on my own turf…

The house was/is an absolute mess since the kitchen situation is still-still- happening. The surfaces and floors were/are very dusty. T mopped the floors, and it looked terrible ten minutes later.

We are very close to being done with the kitchen renovation: the cabinets and the backsplash are installed, all the appliances are in. The new floor (had tiles, and now we have wood). The counter tops! Oh, those counter tops 💜 Also, a new sink that I am swooning over. A drawer that has an outlet so you can place your device in there to charge it, and close the drawer and don’t see any wires. Life-changing for an anxious person like me.

The sink has a drying rack

Back-to-school energy is here! Haircuts (for the kids and ME), uniform shopping, and, my favorite: classroom set up. I go back next week, the kids- after Labor Day so we still a while but it feels good to get those things out of the way. As for the school supplies, we don’t purchase anything. Our house already has so much of everything. Shopping our drawers first, I did a similar thing last year.

My back-to-school hair chop

Today, for example, the kids went with me to the district to take everything out of the cabinets and set up. I don’t have a lot of stuff to begin with, but even with a few things it took some time. Physically, the classroom still needs bulletin boards and books under the desks.

I am also excited that I will be sharing my room with a colleague! H and I have worked together for four years, have similar educational values, and work so well together. The downside is that I will be teaching in TWO rooms, always a pain because you have to move from one class to another. But, on a grand scheme of things, a minor inconvenience.

She made an employee ID with her picture and a title

Another inconvenience- the district removed ALL printers from the classrooms. They will save a TON of money but I’m not happy. I liked having a printer in my classroom!! And they took it away. No more last minute printing, no more of “hmm, this looks interesting, let me print it and see if I can use it next week.” Nope. Now all of us will have to be super organized with our copying. 😟

I am also feeling the new school year energy with stuff at home. My 7 year old and I re-organized my jewelry drawer yesterday which was out of control! My earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets were all mixed up. A total disaster. No before picture, sadly, but I’m happy with the after. L even fit all my perfumes into a canvas bag.

We used an old eye glasses case that we laid flat after breaking its spine- for earrings
Necklaces hung up

Will the jewelry drawer stay like this? Of course not. But it’s nice NOW.

Next is my closet and my chest of drawers. I will take summer stuff out, put fall stuff in.

Are you feeling any back-to-school energy? How is it (not) manifesting for you?

I always like the new school year energy too even though my kids are older now and I’m not a teacher! I guess it’s deeply ingrained in my brain that Sept= back to school! Haha. Always a time I feel most excited for refreshing schedules and routines. Also helps that fall is my favorite season, so there are just so many warm fuzzies that come with this time of year for me!! 🙂 welcome home! So glad you had an AMAZING trip!!

Paul’s school list is pretty long and particular so I had to shop for it but I did it by myself which made it more enjoyable. His supplies are all communal so it’s not exciting for him to come along and buy things he might not use. The only thing we bring that is his and only his are headphones!

Back to school energy is a bit off for us since we are on our vacation at my parent’s right now. I will go get them LDW. WE will come back on Sunday, 8/31 and then Paul starts on 9/2 and Will starts on 9/4!

Hopefully your renovation will be done very soon, how exciting and great that it was going on while you were away. Nice job on the jewelry drawer. Even though you know it’s not going to stay that way, you can enjoy it while it does and even as it devolves to chaos that will be a slow process, so I’m sure you’ll have the benefit for many months. I’ve got new school energy without the new school aspect because I’m finally home and looking forward to many months at home with just a few weekends away. I feel like it gives me a chance to get my life in order and am excited for it.

Ugh I just lost such a long comment. I hate when that happens, and it happens so frequently on my phone. Probably why I comment so little these days.

I’m so sorry they took your printer. I have one in my classroom but I think maybe I’m not supposed to? I have to use a cord to connect to it, and but my own toner for it, but it’s totally worth it for me. I will probably bring in my own personal printer if they ever take mine. Or hide it if I hear they are going to take it. 🤣

I loved all your travel posts. I’m sorry I didn’t comment but I read every one and very much hope I can travel to many of those places in France some day. Thanks for taking us along on your incredible journey!

Tomorrow is my first day with students! I’m ready, or at least, I’m over the anticipation of it and just want to get started already. My kids are both doing so much better two days into their school year. They were a mess just this weekend but now they are much calmer. I hope I feel that way in a couple days.

Hey friend!!!! Thanks for stopping by. And, best of luck with meeting a new crop of students! Heck, your program is so amazing and you do so much for them, you’ll have a great year. You inspire me esp with your reading program. You still have that hat?

Yeah, the printer situation is not ideal. I may get a small printer just to have in the room, not for big jobs but to run a quick copy…

I get like that every year! It’s sort of a new year energy. I get an energy surge in January, then end of May-June, and the biggest on in September.
