This was kind of a long week but, overall, it was good.

Work. Work is going well, students are learning; some are struggling but those are learning as well. Work stays at work, email stays closed after contractual hours (3PM). Our school building is under some renovations so that is a bit of a pain but better for us in the long run, when the building has had some updates.

My direct supervisor has retired! I am sad because I really like him. At the moment we have a fill-in supervisor who is from the English department. She is really nice. The district will soon be looking for someone to fill in that position permanently. T asked me: “would you apply? You have the degrees/certs..” Not for this one, no. My former supervisor was social studies+world language, and I have zero clue on any kind of social studies. I don’t even read the news! Additionally, a position like that will require a 12 month contract. Mayyyyyybe I’ll consider it down the line, when the kids are bigger, and don’t want to spend time with me.. But at this season of my life, the kids are small, and I want to have my summers off. For them and for myself. Plus, I love to travel.

Self. Another bummer: my yoga studio is closing its doors at the end of March. I am really sad about that! I am a relatively new client (signed up last June) but I have been going on the regular, 2-3 times a week. I will miss all the teachers. Saturday mornings, Monday and Wednesday nights… I will have to find a different studio OR use Peloton app – T has a subscription and there are yoga classes, strength, riding lessons and even meditation. I will have to be more disciplined because with an app, nobody is expecting me at the studio… And that kind of accountability is what works with me.

Talking about self, need to talk about daily habits. That silly chart I showed you last time is working. Kind of. I started putting Y for yoga and W for weights. Outside time has been pitiful. It is so cold!

I will do the same for February but will update/change the habits a bit. Maybe “outside” was not a good habit for January when it’s so cold. Also, what does “outside” mean in this case? Does walking from house to car count? From car to work? From work to car? No. By outside I mean a 15-20 minute walk outside, in the park or up and down the street. And “hydrate” is already in my routine with regular water, tea, and soup.

Highlights

T and I found a reliable sitter. And, we have a date! Going out to dinner and seeing a live theater show. Last time we had a date was… back in November, I think? Tonight we are seeing “I love you, you are perfect, now change.”

L made honor roll at her school. She is a very good student, loves to learn, and we are very proud of her.

Last week, R joined the next level class at jiu jitsu. Before, he was in 3-4 year olds group and now that he turned 5, he is in a 5 to 6 year olds group. In 5 to 6 class, the kids are older, so they wrestle A LOT, very different from the other class where the kiddos are still small.

Phone use down 26% compared to last week. I had my Kindle making a note to NOT misplace it as I usually do.

Almost 3 hours on chrome??? What was a doing??

My notebook where I journal and plan has run out and it’s time for the next one. I have a stash of notebooks that I replenish when I visit places. This new one is from NY Botanical gardens and it has all kids of citrus fruit on it.

New planning notebook

Enough blabbering for today.

Any daily habits for you? How are you doing on annual goals?

Hope you all are having a good weekend.

Your date night with tea sounded great! It’s so great to find a babysitter that you can trust. We had a girl in our block watch the boys last weekend and it went really well. This week kind of sucked, but that was to be expected. I had a strong start to January with consistent workouts, but that of course came to a screeching halt when I had surgery. I got out for a nice long walk yesterday but now the highs are below zero for the next couple of days so going out for walks is just out of the question for me.I’m hoping to get on track with walks again when the weather warms up.

That’s a smart work decision to prioritize your young family right now, and your time with the (and for yourself – boo on your yoga studio closing, I hope you find something else to maintain your practice)! Work will still be work and those opportunities will be there for you when the time is right – who needs to work the whole year, having the summers off is such a great thing. I met so many teachers when I was a SAHM a few years with the kids – and so many more now at the gym.

And yay for date night. I remember being so stressed about getting a reliable sitter (when my parents travelled) – especially when the kids were so young. I remember getting one off of Craigslist – wow that was nuts.

That’s a very pretty journal. I don’t have any annual goals, other than trying to keep up the momentum of my workouts. Maybe hopping back on the career track again, daunting, trying to figure out what to do when I grow up ;). Right now just crossing fingers that the reno works out ok, and counting the days to when I see my son again!

It sounds like you’re doing really well on your goals so far. It’s a shame about the yoga studio closing. Hopefully you’ll find a replacement that works. No goals here, and I think I’ve left my planner/journal at my parents place which is annoying. Hopefully we will go down next weekend (long weekend) and I can pick it up.

My goal is to be outside for 1000 hours this year. I only count it as “outside time” if I’m out for five minutes or longer. Going to the garage to get in my car doesn’t count, nor does walking from the parking lot to my office building. Walking from my office across campus to the student union DOES count, though, because it takes 6-7 minutes.

Our local yoga studio closed a few years ago (it did not survive COVID) and I was really sad, but also was fine with it because there is so much free yoga on YouTube.

Such a bummer about your yoga studio closing. It’s the worst when you get used to something and are enjoying it, and then it’s gone. We’re also having a serious cold snap, and I’m more concerned about how to avoid spending time outside! 🤣 Your new planning notebook is gorgeous. Congrats on being asked to apply for the position – and congrats on knowing that you wanted to say no!

ooh, when I count my time “outside” I definitely count time walking from the parking lot to my car and time waiting for the bus stop and all the bits. Maybe not precisely, but at least for something. Like maybe 10 minutes a day for all those little things.

I’ve been lightly doing a 30 day yoga challenge. I’ve been doing at least 10 minutes of yoga a day – except that day we were travelling, but I think I’ll just do a morning and an evening practice to make that one up one day before the end of the month.
