Today, again, I was up at 4:30am and did a fabulous morning routine. When L came downstairs, it was 6:40. Journaled. Caught up on a few blogs. Journaled again.

I have a lot of thoughts brewing in regard to 2025, and whether I will set goals or not set goals. Also, brainstormed my word for the year. Or, maybe there will be no word.

In my journal I wrote these words that came to me. Some better than others:

Authentic

Self

Health

Be

Balance

Brave

Quiet

Center

Explore

Care

I am sort of leaning toward: FOCUS. As in focus on what matters, focus on things that are in front of my face, focus on my health, focus on things that bring me joy.

This is so me 🤣

I also decluttered my phone apps: apps I haven’t used and apps that I shouldn’t use to zone out (Sephora, Nordstroms, even Amazon). I’ve had many instances where I would go on the Nordstrom app just window “shop” without buying anything. That’s a waste of time and energy.

Today was raining ALL day long. Not overcast but actual RAIN. We couldn’t go for a walk. Instead, we circled each other like caged animals in the same house.😂

My little hippie: wearing my dress and using the belt as a headband

I did yoga in the morning while the kids watched a few shows. We then alternated between playing, eating and TV. R then went down for a nap and I had some time to myself.

In the late afternoon, I couldn’t take the cabin fever, so went to the grocery store with L tagging along. It was miserable out! We got stuff to make kotlety- Russian meat patties.

Helper

All you do to make kotlety, is mix ground beef and ground pork together, add an egg, some shredded onion, and the middle part (don’t know what it’s called) of the white bread. We didn’t have white bread so we did bread crumbs.

Kotlety came out delicious! We had them with butter noodles, and a tomato, cucumber and dill salad. Russians put dill in everything 😉

Then it was time to wind down: a few games of Candyland, showers, and books. Tomorrow my daughter and I are going to New York City and staying overnight. It’s her birthday present!

This post is part of my personal writing challenge to document our winter break this year.

I think it sounds like a nice way to spend a rainy day. It’s really lovely when the kids are old enough to pretty much entertain themselves, but I’ve found you still always need to be in the room with them to “watch”. I’m always wanting to experience Russian cuisine but have never really made anything yet. I’d love to try borscht but don’t know where to start. Every recipe I find is different so I’m not sure if they are authentic or not. One of these days I’ll find a good Russian cookbook and try out a few things. I have an old one I picked up around 40 years ago when I was learning Russian, but the recipes seem somewhat intimidating so I need to find something a bit more basic and my style.

We had rain a couple of days ago. It is such a drag! Sounds like you still filled the day and made it a good one. Love the photo of L helping make dinner!

Have so much fun in NYC with L!! What a fun birthday gift! I can’t wait to hear what all you do. NYC is one of my fave cities. I can’t wait to take the boys there when they are a bit older and heartier walkers.

I like word of focus- very versatile. My word last year was care, I was just reflecting on how helpful it was this year 🙂

we’ve had a rainy day here and I know what you mean about being all over each other! Kids have now watched too much screens while I clean the house. Ah well.
