For my every day bag, I use a backpack. Gone are the days of a tiny wristlet only containing my debit card and my lipstick. *If I am doing out on a date, for example, then I leave my backpack at home and take a smaller, more elegant, pocketbook.

In this season of life, I bring everything but the kitchen sink with me. I never know when I will have time to read, or take some notes, or plan. Sometimes I have an hour before I pick up the kids so it’s good to have stuff with me. Plus, I like to feel prepared. The contents of my bag vary from season to season – in summer, I add a small bottle of sunscreen, in the winter, a tube of hand cream.

The bag was not decluttered prior to this picture

Without further ado…

Two calendars (soon to be one since we are on the cusp of 2024 being over)

One accessory notebook – bought in NY Botanical Gardens

Small notebook with cats – brought from Paris

Multiple pens+ a sharpie

Perfume

Lipstick(s)+ lip balms+mascara+eye brightener

Tampons/pads

Medicine+ cough drops +inhaler+nose spray because I had bronchitis last week

Wallet

Hand sanitizer

A wad of napkins from McDonald’s/some other restaurant

Tissues

A tea bag

A tube of hand cream

Post-it notes with writing on them. I write myself notes, place them into my backpack then address them later, either put them on my calendar or assign a time to complete the task.

Kindle

Epi-pen: R is allergic to some stuff so I always carry it with me

Ear buds

What’s in your bag?

You have a lot of stuff that you carry around, but I guess it makes sense because you’re doing pick ups and drop offs and so on. I only carry a small purse with a credit card case, keys, glasses, sunglasses, and lip balm. I’m at a more minimal phase of life, and also, I only ever go to the grocery store, since I work from home.

When I go out, I usually just bring a fanny pack with sunglasses, chapstick, wallet, phone, and earbuds. However, when I was commuting to work, I had a purse with my Kindle, a smaller bag with tampons, Advil, extra sunglasses, band aids, extra chapstick. I also carried an umbrella and my lunch!

Now THAT is a bag of a mom of small children!

I have a weirdly large number of sunglasses in my bag. When I go out for a walk I just take a little “body bag” which is really a fanny pack that I wear cross body (ew, I just thought of body bag, as in body bag for dead bodies, and now I’m all grossed out by myself).

Oh I remember those days with my bag just full of work and kids stuff! Nowadays, I mostly carry a small crossbody/fanny pack bag which carries my small wallet, a couple of lipsticks, my phone and keys, a few bandaids (a habit – they came in handy one time at the airport for another family as the dad cut his finger closing up his stroller with screaming kid in the other arm!). I still have a work backpack to carry my laptop, but currently on hiatus.

If I had those gorgeous notebooks, I’d carry them with me all the time too!

LOVE how prepared you are for all scenarios. I have the worst cough and am thinking of taking one of Coop’s inhalers until I feel better…

That is a lot of stuff you are schlepping around. But I guess it is necessary when having so much going on.

These days I only have a very small purse and I empty it after every use. But I always have some migraine medicine and a chopstick in it as well as my wallet.

interesting post. I definitely don’t bring as much. My essentials: lip balm, eye drop, pen, small notebook, AirPods, allergy/stomach meds. That’s about it.

I used to have so much more in my purse (when I worked out of the house – definitely need more when you’re going to be away from home for most of the day!) – and now my purse is much more minimalist: wallet, phone, keys, a small zippered pouch with Advil, and a Tide2Go pen. That’s about it!

I love that you’re all prepared when you go 🙂 I usually leave the hosue with a small cross-body bag but if I go to work, I use a backpack, too.

Fun post! When my kids were little I had so many more things and a larger purse! Currently I use a small purse with just a few things but if we are traveling or going to spend all day somewhere I switch to a backpack with way too many things inside because of “what-if???” scenarios.

Hi! Thanks, yes, I carry a lot with me, and at their ages (4 and 7) unpredictability is almost guaranteed 🙂
